Say hi to spring with this cute Crochet Headphone Sprout Pattern! Become a happy little sprout plant in just 30 minutes by using a variety of beginner stitches.

Have you seen those crochet leaf wraps people put around their phone cords, headphones, and bookmarks? Well, I have made my own version of the famous headphone sprout pattern and I hope y'all enjoy it too!
I love bringing nature into my crochet patterns. I always feel inspired by both flora and fauna. A few of my favorite patterns for spring are my crochet Japanese knot bag that looks like Mount Fuji as well as my crochet strawberry bag. But this little free crochet sprout pattern is quickly becoming one of my top favorites!
I took and altered a leaf pattern I already had a pattern for from my crochet orange pattern, but I added a stem and an adjoining leaf. This pattern is fairly simple and can be completed if you know some basic crochet stitches!
So, let's begin crocheting the crochet leaf headphone pattern! If you are looking for more green plant patterns, my 4 leaf clover crochet pattern can be made with any leftover green yarn.

✏️ Things To Note:
- Yarn Options: I used acrylic yarn for this project, but you can use any yarn. Cotton is also a good choice, and if you have any leftover yarn, you can make crochet frog coasters or crochet lily pad coasters too.
- Yarn Usage: The crochet sprout pattern requires very little yarn, making it a perfect project to use up scrap yarn rather than buying a whole new skein.
- Size: The finished leaf measures approximately 2.5 inches in length, and when you create two leaves, their combined width will be about 5 inches. This compact size makes it an ideal accessory for adding a playful touch to your headphones without being too bulky.

🐌Expert Tips
- Use Thinner Yarn: If you’re aiming for a more delicate look, especially for projects like a bookmark, consider using thinner yarn. DK weight yarn works well for this, as it will give the leaves a lighter, more refined appearance compared to thicker worsted weight yarn. This can add a subtle elegance to the design while still maintaining the unique crochet texture.
- Adjusting Size: If you’d like to create a larger version of the sprout, it’s simple to adjust the pattern. Start by increasing the number of chains in your initial chain to make the foundation bigger. Then, modify the rest of the stitches as needed to maintain the shape and proportions of the leaves. This allows you to create everything from mini versions to more dramatic, larger leaves that can be used for a variety of different projects. Whether you're making a larger accessory or incorporating it into a bigger crochet project, adjusting the size is easy and customizable.
- Adding Stiffness: To help your leaves maintain their shape and stand out more clearly, consider adding a bit of stiffness once the project is finished. You can achieve this by using fabric stiffener or a light application of starch, which will give the leaves a firmer structure. This step is particularly helpful if you're using your crochet sprout for decorative purposes or want it to maintain its form over time. Simply follow the instructions on your chosen stiffening product, and let your piece dry thoroughly to hold its shape for longer.
🧵Pattern FAQs
Yes! I made a leaf charm similar to this sprout on my crochet orange bag pattern, check it out!
For the headphone wrap, I would advise against it, as it may cause the headphones to sit awkwardly. However, if it's for a cord wrap, it should be fine.
If your leaves curl or flop, try blocking them or inserting a thin floral wire in the leaf stitches while you’re stitching.

Why is my sprout floppy? 🙁
Kimberly Arenas says
Hi there, the sprout could be floppy for a few reasons - looser stitches, yarn stiffness which can vary. You can try blocking it and starching it to make it less floppy or some people add floral wire into the stitches when crocheting the leaves to make it stiffer.
