Embrace the strawberry trend by making this cute Crochet Strawberry Blanket Pattern. Made with solid granny squares and crochet strawberry appliques, it is easy to adjust the size from a baby blanket all the way to king.
I love strawberries and think they are quite adorable. I love them so much that I am kind of addicted to crocheting them into well everything I own! Last year I made a crochet strawberry bag, then I decided it wasn't enough. I needed MORE strawberries!
Then, I went on to create a crochet strawberry keychain pattern for my backpack and a crochet strawberry pillow. I felt like I was missing something and ended up getting gifted some cotton yarns - including red cotton. The red cotton is what I used to make my crochet strawberry coasters.
Finally, I started feeling satisfied with the amount of crochet strawberries until late spring hit and it was unusually cold for the time of year. I wanted a crochet blanket that matched the late spring/early summer season and one of the first things to pop into my head was of course a crochet strawberry blanket pattern.
This strawberry blanket is a simple crochet summer blanket pattern that celebrates the season. Big juicy ripe strawberries are the epitome of summer to me.
The size I made is a crochet lap/baby blanket size, but it can be used for any size - just adjust the amount of solid crochet granny squares you make!
Another bonus about the crochet strawberry blanket pattern? We make the crochet strawberry granny squares by just adding a crochet strawberry applique on top! This way you can change where you want to add the strawberries depending on the size of blanket you want and what squares you want to have them on. Making it much more versatile to fit your tastes.
The reason why I love using crochet appliques for blankets is because they allow versatility and ease of mind. And crochet strawberry appliques can be added to any project - bags, cardigans, sweaters, pillows, granny squares, blankets etc. The possibilities are endless!
So, let's get started making this strawberry blanket!

🍵Instructions for Crochet Strawberry Blanket Pattern
This part of the pattern is made in the round.
How to Make Solid Granny Squares:
The solid granny squares are the base of this pattern, and you will need the following amount of sold granny squares for the baby blanket.
- 9x white
- 8x rose
- 8x peach
Round 1: With the 5.5mm crochet hook, ch x5 and then sl st to the first ch.
Then ch x3. Dc x2 into the circle. Then ch x2. After that (dc x3 into the circle and ch x2). Repeat what is in the parenthesis 2 more times. You should have 4 clusters. Slip stitch into the top of the ch space at the beginning of the round.
Round 2: Ch x2. Dc into each dc stitch from the previous round, dc x2 + ch x2 + dc x2 in each chain 2 corner stitch.
Then sl st to the first dc in the row.
Round 3: Ch x2. Dc into every stitch and dc x2 + ch x2 + dc x2 in each corner. Then sl st to the first dc in the row.
Round 4: Ch x2. Dc in every stitch in the row, then do the corner as described above. Then sl st to the first dc and fasten off the yarn.
How to crochet strawberry appliques:
The crochet strawberry applique pattern is made in rows.
- 7x strawberries, or more depending on your preference for the amount of strawberry granny squares.
Row 1: With the 5mm crochet hook, ch x2 and turn.
Row 2: In the second chain from the hook, make an inc. (2) Then ch x1 and turn (for this next row and every row afterwards you will make a turning chain, but do not work in it. It’s to help turn your work).
Row 3: Inc x2 (4). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 4: Sc in every stitch (4). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 5: Inc, sc x2, inc (6). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 6: Sc in every stitch (6). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 7: Inc, sc x4, inc (8). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 8: Sc in every stitch (8). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 9: Inc, sc x6, inc (10). Then ch x1 and turn.

Row 13: Dec, sc x4, dec (6). Then ch x1 and turn.
After your last row, crochet around the edges of your strawberry if you want a neater finish and a slightly bigger strawberry. This should be equal to roughly 30-32 stitches. You want to put 2 stitches at the top corners of the strawberry and down at the bottom, otherwise its 1 stitch per row/stitch. Then fasten off and weave in the ends.
Crochet Strawberry Stem and Leaves:
This pattern is made one stem/leaf at a time.
You want to make 1 for every crochet strawberry applique you make.
Step 1: With the 5mm hook, Ch x3, then in the second ch from the hook make a sc, then make a sc in the following stitch. This is the stem.
Step 2: Ch x4 and in the second ch from the hook make a sc. Then sc in the following 2 chains. Then sl st back to the stitch where you broke off and made chains for the first leaf.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 x3 more times.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Sew the strawberry stem and leaves to the top part of the strawberry.
With white yarn and tapestry needle, crochet little lines onto the strawberry.
Weave in any loose ends.
Assembly of the Strawberry Blanket:
Switch back to the 5.5mm hook for the rest of the blanket. Slip stitch the solid crochet granny squares together with the key lime colored yarn, by putting 2 granny squares right side out together and then going through the inner 2 most stitch loops, one from each side.
I alternate my colors like in the picture, but you can always go for a more random pattern if you'd like.
Once the granny squares are attached in one direction, sl st the same way as outlined above, when you get to the corners of the granny squares just crochet on top of the other corner stitch you previously made and keep going. This raises the yarn a little bit but not too much.
Once all the squares have been attached, now it is time to make the border. The border is 2 rows of dc in key lime, You want to make these rows just like you made the granny squares. 1 stitch in each stitch, and dc x2 + ch x2 + dc x2 in each corner stitch.
Fasten off the green yarn and switch to white. Now we are going to make the shell border.
Shell border: Skip a stitch and then make 6 dcs in one stitch. Next skip a stitch and then make a sc. You just made a shell stitch. Repeat for the rest of the round. Then fasten off and weave in the end.
Attach the strawberry appliques on the outermost and middle white squares. (Or wherever you find pleasing) and stitch the strawberry appliques onto the blanket carefully.
Once all the sewing and weaving ends is all completed, you now have a cute crochet strawberry blanket.
If you have leftover green, white, and red yarn you can make a few winter seasonal blankets like my Candy Cane Crochet Blanket and my Candy Cane Crochet Border Blanket.
🐌Expert Tips
Because I made a smaller sized blanket I only needed 1 skein of each colored yarn, but you may need more depending on the size of blanket you are wanting to make.
🧵Pattern FAQs
Absolutely! That is also a good way to increase the size of the blanket if you didn't want to change the design at all.
It will be about the size of a throw blanket, just make sure to change the hook size to match the yarn size.
Loveys are 12 x 12 inches big and each granny square is about 5-6 inches, plus the border adds a few additional inches.
