Add a bit of freshness and zing to your wardrobe with my cute Orange Crochet Bag Pattern! A perfectly cute crochet accessory for spring and summer.
It is no mystery around here that I like making bags that look like food like my Crochet Strawberry Bag and Crochet Dumping Bag. It was only a matter of time before I made a bag that looks like an orange. And what perfect timing because the Chinese New Year is tomorrow and oranges are supposed to signify good luck and happiness.
This crochet fruit bag is an easy crochet bag to make and is perfect for beginners since it is made in 3 simple parts and no sewing is required. You can make the pattern in less than a few hours! The hardest part about this bag is just keeping your counting right with the orange circle rounds.
So let's begin making our crochet orange bag!

✏️ Things To Note:
- I chose a more coral/medium orange for the crochet orange because I wanted to make the bag read softer than it would with a more straightforward orange/carrot colored yarn. You can use any orange colored yarn for the bag.
- The crochet fruit bag is made flat, so there is not a middle piece to go with the bag, however if you need your orange crochet bag to have more depth to it, feel free to make a middle piece.
- The crochet phone bag is roughly 8 inches in diameter.
- The crochet orange bag is made using the continuous circle method so slip stitching and chains to the next round are not required.

🍵Instructions for Orange Crochet Bag
This part of the pattern is made mostly in the round, while the handle is made in rows.
Round 1: Make a mr and dc x12 (do not make chains first, we want the middle to look like it's swirling from the center). (12)
Round 2: Dc Inc in every stitch (24).
Round 3: Dc Inc, dc, then repeat for the entire round. (36)
Round 4: Dc Inc, dc x2, then repeat for the entire round. (48)
Round 5: Dc Inc, dc x3, repeat for the entire round. (60)
Round 6: Dc Inc, dc x4, repeat for the entire round. (72)
Round 7: Dc Inc, dc x5, repeat for the entire round. (84)
Round 8: Dc Inc, dc x6, repeat for the entire round. (96)
At the end make a hdc and then a sl st for a smoother outer seem. Then fasten off the yarn.
Make 2 orange circles.
Once you have made 2 orange circles you want to single crochet the edges together. To do this you want to hold the 2 circles together and line them up in relation to stitch openings. Then rejoin the orange yarn to the outer edge going through both orange circles. Then sc around the edge for about ¾ -⅘ of the way.
You want to leave an opening about the size of a hand so you can easily grab things out of the bag.
Rows 1-115: Sc x 4 on just one side of the orange (not both pieces like we just did). Then ch x1 and turn. Sc x4 and repeat.
Adjust the length of the strap as needed.
To join to the opposite side of the orange you want to crochet the handle and the top of the orange together, close to the end of the opening. When that is done, fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends.
You will do this for the other side’s handle, but rejoin the yarn on the other orange circle and repeat.
Now the bag should be done.
Crochet Flower Bag Charm:
This pattern is made in 2 rounds.
Round 1: With the yellow yarn, make a mr then sc x5 into the mr. Fasten off the yellow and join the white yarn.
Round 2: With the white yarn, ch x2 and in the same stitch make a dc, tr, tr, dc. Then ch x2 and sl st back into the same stitch.
For the next 4 petals you are going to ch x2, and do the dc, tr ,tr ,dc, ch x2 and slip stitch into the next available stitch from the round below.
After all 5 petals are complete, slip stitch to the first petal, then chain x25 and sl st to the first ch. Fasten off the yarn and weave in any yarn tails.
Crochet Leaf Bag Charm:
This pattern starts off as a chain but then goes completely around it.
Round 1: Ch x13
Round 2: In the second ch from the hook make a sc. In the following chains make a hdc, dc, dc, tr, tr, tr, tr, dc, dc, hdc, sc in the remainder of the chains. Then ch x1, and flip to the other side.
You will repeat the same sequence of stitches on the unworked side. Sc, hdc, dc, dc, tr, tr, tr, tr, dc, dc, hdc, sc.
Then slip stitch to the beginning. Then chain x25 and sl st to the first ch. Fasten off the yarn and weave in any yarn tails.
Now all you have to do is add the charms to the bag and you have a cute orange crochet bag ready to go!
🐌Expert Tips
If you are going to be carrying heavy things in the bag, I suggest making a fabric liner for the bag so it doesn't get distorted or stretched. The weight of a phone or wallet should be fine without a liner.
🧵Pattern FAQs
Of course, chunky yarn would make the bag become a large tote versus a phone bag so keep that in mind.
When you are done making the flower and leaf (without the chain handle), make sure you leave long tails for sewing. Then using the tapestry or darning needle, do a whip stitch or running stitch to sew on the appliques to the bag. Make sure you only go through one side of the bag and not both.
Of course! I usually make my handles out of crochet, but you can always add on a different handle if you want it to be stronger.
