Ribbit! Ribbit! This Crochet Frog Coaster Pattern is sure to bring a smile to your face! Quick and easy to make, you can complete a coaster in less than 20 minutes for that sweet instant gratification.

Finished crochet lily pad coasters and crochet frog coasters.

Ideal for last-minute gifts, like Christmas, housewarming, or baby showers, they’ll have friends wondering where you got such adorable coasters—and you can proudly say you made them.

The pattern is great for selling finished products at markets or online. It uses cotton yarn, which is breathable and absorbent. Cotton is excellent for coasters, summer hats, and wash rags, while acrylic isn’t suitable since it's not absorbent.

I’ve used cotton yarn in other patterns, like my Crochet Duck Hat Pattern, Crochet Spa Set, and Crochet Pumpkin Pie Potholder Pattern. All 3 crochet patterns serve different functions, but they are all suited best by using cotton as the material because of its absorbency and heat resistance.

    ✏️ Things To Note:

    1. Use Cotton Yarn: For best results, use cotton yarn. It’s absorbent, breathable, and holds up well to heat. Acrylic can be used if you plan to make appliques instead of coasters, as it’s less absorbent.
    2. Beginner-Friendly Pattern: This pattern is perfect for those new to crochet, involving just 4 simple rounds, just like my crochet bear coasters.
    3. Adjustable Size: The finished coaster is approximately 4.5 inches wide. You can easily adjust the size by using a smaller or larger crochet hook.

First round of the crochet frog coaster pattern.

Round 1: Using the green yarn, make a magic ring and immediately chain 2. Then dc x12 into the magic ring. To secure the round, sl st to the 1st dc in the round (12).

    🐌Expert Tips

    • Choosing Yarn: Always opt for cotton yarn. It absorbs moisture, is heat-resistant, and lasts longer.
    • Maintaining Tidy Embroidery: To minimize the mess on the coaster’s back, slide the yarn under stitches to reach the next embroidery spot without showing on the front.
    • Fixing Curling Coasters: Curling often happens due to uneven tension. Practice maintaining even tension to get a flat coaster.

    🧵Pattern FAQs

What is the best crochet yarn for making coasters?

The best yarn for crocheting coasters is generally cotton because it is durable, absorbent, holds up well to heat, and is easy to wash.

Why do my crochet coasters curl?

Crochet coasters tend to curl if there is a variation in tension. Aim to maintain uniform stitch sizes for the best results.

    Are crochet coasters practical?

Crochet coasters are equally effective as those made from cork, felt, stone, or other materials found in stores. The distinct advantage of crochet coasters is that they are handmade, offering a wider variety in design.

I'm so sorry, that's a typo. I'll correct it in the pattern, but it is sc x7
