Get spooky with my Crochet Ghost Coaster Pattern! A perfect way to decorate for Halloween or all year round if you love the spooky season.
One of my favorite things to crochet right now is coasters. I've made countless crochet coaster patterns in the past few months, but I’m absolutely head over heels for these crochet ghost coasters. They pair perfectly with my other crochet Halloween decor, like my crochet pumpkin coasters or my crochet jack o lantern table decor.
These crochet ghost coasters are a great Halloween craft idea to sell at fall markets! You can make a batch of simple, cute little ghosts, or give each one more personality by adding crochet Halloween costumes, similar to my crochet ghost garland pattern.
If you have any leftover white cotton yarn after finishing this pattern, you can also try my crochet peppermint coaster pattern to gear up for the winter holidays!

✏️ Things To Note:
- Cotton Yarn Advantages: I made this ghost coaster pattern using cotton yarn. Cotton is great for crochet coasters because it's heat-resistant, absorbent, and won’t melt. Acrylic, on the other hand, doesn’t absorb moisture well. If you use acrylic, consider making ghost appliques instead.
- Working in Rows: This pattern is made in rows rather than rounds, which makes it easier to create the rounded top of the ghost.
- Adjusting Size: The coaster is roughly 4 inches wide and 5 inches tall. To change the size, you can adjust your hook or yarn.
💭Abbreviations to Remember (US terms)
- Chain - ch
- Single crochet - sc
- Double crochet - dc
- Increase - inc
- Slip Stitch - sl st
🧋Variations
You can make two of these ghosts and crochet them together to create a little ghost pouch or charm for bags and purses. The ghost pattern can also be turned into ghost appliques for blankets, similar to my crochet sunflower blanket pattern.
🍵Instructions for Crochet Ghost Coaster Pattern
Row 1: With white yarn, ch x7, then in the second ch from the hook make a sc. Then sc for the rest of the row (6). After, ch x1 and turn.
Row 2: Sc inc, sc x4, sc inc (8). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 3: Sc inc, sc x6, sc inc (10). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 4: Sc inc, sc x8, sc inc (12). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 5-13: Sc in every stitch (12). Then ch x1 and turn, except for the last row. For the last row, do not ch x1 - just turn.
Row 14: Skip the first stitch and make 5x dc in the second stitch. Then skip the next stitch and make a sc in the following stitch. You just made your first shell for the bottom of the ghost. Repeat the above process 2 more times to finish off the row.
After the 3 shell stitches are made, sc around the sides and top of the ghost. You want to make a sc for every row you made, as well as 1 sc for every stitch you did at the top. This will help your ghost have a cleaner edge. Then sl st to where the shell stitch row begins and fasten off. Do not crochet around the shell stitches.
Embroidery:
Now with the black yarn or black embroidery floss, embroider the eyes and mouth on the 7 and 8th rows of the ghost pattern. Alternatively, you can also use fabric paint if you don’t feel like doing embroidery work.
Now you have a completed crochet ghost coaster! It's a fun and festive addition to your Halloween decor.

🐌Expert Tips
- Neat Finishing: For a clean back side, weave your yarn tails behind a few stitches, ensuring they aren’t visible from the front.
- Maintaining Shape: If your ghost coaster curls, consider blocking it lightly with a damp cloth and pinning it down overnight.
- Tension Control: Keep your stitch sizes uniform to prevent curling or uneven edges.
- Alternative Embellishments: Consider adding tiny bows or hats to customize your ghosts and give them unique personalities.
🧵Pattern FAQs
Cotton yarn is generally the best because it's durable, absorbent, heat-resistant, and easy to wash.
Crochet coasters tend to curl if there is a variation in tension. Aim to maintain uniform stitch sizes for the best results.
Crochet coasters are equally effective as those made from cork, felt, stone, or other materials found in stores. The distinct advantage of crochet coasters is that they are handmade, offering a wider variety in design.
