What better way to welcome autumn and Halloween than to make a monster hat from my free Crochet Monster Hat Pattern? It’s the perfect crochet accessory for October.

My kid, the coolest and sweetest around, has been wanting me to make him a crochet monster hat for a while. At first, he wanted me to create several different types of monsters, but we finally settled on a simple monster face with two mismatched eyes and some creepy sharp teeth.
Truth be told, I never make hats in the round. I prefer making them in a rectangle and cinching them as seen with my crochet bear hat pattern and crochet cactus hat pattern, but I knew the best way to do the crochet monster hat pattern was by making it in the round.
My kid has worn this hat a few times now, and it still seems to be holding up! Another great Halloween hat is my Free Crochet Witch Hat Pattern which can be made for either kids or adults.
So, without further ado, let's start making a monster hat with my free Crochet Monster Hat Pattern!

🐌Expert Tips
- Choose Soft Yarn: Use soft, flexible yarns like chenille or velvet for comfort and a similar look.
- Practice the Magic Ring: Familiarize yourself with this technique for a neat center; alternatively, chain 3 and crochet into the third chain for an easier option.
- Customize Your Hat: Add unique features like horns or extra eyes, and adjust size by adding extra rounds of increases.
- Secure and Care: Ensure eyes and teeth are sewn on securely, and hand wash the hat, laying it flat to dry to maintain its shape.
🧵 Pattern FAQs
You can use regular worsted weight yarn, or you can use velvet yarn for a similar effect.
Roughly a size child small/medium. If needed, add one to two extra rounds of increases for larger hat sizes.
I can complete one in about an hour and a half due to sewing on the face.
