Sit on the couch and snuggle up with hot cocoa and this warm Candy Cane Crochet Blanket while watching your favorite holiday movies this year! Simple to make, you can have this crochet Christmas blanket completed in no time.

A good holiday blanket doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, simple is best so you can stay warm all winter long, allowing more free time for crocheting gifts for loved ones, like my Crochet Plaid Scarf.
I love this candy cane crochet blanket because it only uses double crochet stitches, making it perfect for beginners who want to tackle a big project. Plus, the repetitive nature of the pattern allows you to work on it mindlessly—great for catching up on TV shows! I also appreciate the simple color changes, ensuring each stripe is the same width.
The best part about making a simple blanket is that it gives you the opportunity to create a more intricate border, adding some pizzazz to the design. The dot border is perfect because it adds additional interest.

✏️ Things To Note:
- Yarn Choice: While I used acrylic yarn for this blanket, you can choose any yarn type that suits your preference. Blanket yarn, for example, would be a fantastic option if you're looking for a cozier and warmer feel.
- Size Adjustments: I created this blanket to be the size of a throw, perfect for two people to snuggle up on the couch. However, you can easily adjust the size by modifying the number of chains you start with, allowing you to make it as big or small as you prefer.
- Stitch Options: I opted for double crochet stitches as the foundation for this blanket, but feel free to experiment with different stitch patterns. You can use any stitch that adds texture and suits your style, whether it’s a more intricate pattern or a simple one. The possibilities are endless!

🐌Expert Tips
- Keep It Simple:For beginners, double crochet stitches are an excellent choice. They're easy to work with and provide a solid foundation for larger projects like blankets. By sticking with this stitch, you can focus on building your skills without feeling overwhelmed by more complicated techniques.
- Bobble Stitch Technique: Bobble stitches are a fun way to add texture to your blanket, but they can be tricky if not done carefully. To make them easier, be sure to keep the loops from crossing each other on the hook. This ensures the bobbles are smooth and properly formed, avoiding any unwanted tangles or messiness in your work.
- Blocking for Perfection: Once you've finished your blanket, consider blocking it. Blocking is a technique where you wet or steam your finished piece and gently stretch it into shape. This helps even out the stitches and gives your blanket a polished, professional look. It can also help eliminate any unevenness caused by tension or curling edges, ensuring that your project looks its best.
- Mixing Yarn Types: If you're looking to add variety and texture to your blanket, mixing different types of yarn can be a great option. Combining yarns with different textures can create a unique, multi-dimensional look. However, it's essential to be mindful of the yarn weights. If the yarns vary too much in thickness, it could affect the drape and feel of the blanket, so try to use yarns of similar weights for the best results. Mixing yarns can be a fun way to experiment with color and texture, but balancing the yarn types is key to maintaining a cohesive final product.
🧵Pattern FAQs
Yes, you can definitely use blanket yarn instead of worsted weight yarn. Just be mindful of the blanket's size, as blanket yarn is thicker and will result in a smaller finished project unless you adjust the stitch count or add more rows. It will also give your blanket extra warmth and softness!
To make your blanket more intricate, consider mixing different stitches to create interesting textures and patterns. You can combine double crochet with stitches like puff stitches, shell stitches, or treble crochet to add variety and depth. Alternating stitch types in different sections or creating stripes of different textures will make your blanket more dynamic and visually appealing. You could also try using a stitch pattern, like a basket weave or a ripple pattern, to enhance the overall design and make it stand out!
Absolutely! To space out your bobbles more, simply add more slip stitches or chains between each bobble. This will create larger gaps, giving your blanket a more open, airy texture. Just be sure to adjust your stitch count so the pattern remains even and balanced.
