Unleash your creativity this holiday season with my easy Crochet Star Garland Pattern! Transform simple crochet stitches into delightful stars that can be used for festive decorations or heartfelt gifts.
Crocheting a star might seem intimidating, but I’m here to simplify the process with my Crochet Star Garland Pattern! You’ll start by making individual stars and then crochet them together using chains.
While many crochet shapes—like squares, rectangles, circles, and crochet triangles—are easy to master, stars can be a bit more challenging. With five points extending in all directions, it’s no wonder they can be confusing.
To create the crochet star in this pattern, you'll need to know a few basic stitches: magic ring, single crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, chains, and slip stitches. Once you’ve got those down, you're all set!
If you’re comfortable with these stitches, you can craft multiple stars and transform them into a stunning crochet star garland.

✏️ Things To Note:
- Yarn Choice: I used acrylic yarn, but you can use any type of yarn that suits your fancy. Just pay attention to the size of your yarn and the hook size.
- Stars Versatility: This is a crochet star garland pattern, but you can make just the stars and use them on their own. You don’t necessarily need to add them to a garland.
- Blocking: I highly recommend blocking the stars after crocheting them, as crochet tends to be round rather than sharp. Blocking helps give them a more defined shape.
🪡 Materials Needed
- 1 skein of light yellow yarn

🍵Instructions for Crochet Star Garland
This pattern is worked in rounds.
Round 1: Using the light yellow yarn, make a mr, immediately ch x2, then dc x10 in the circle. If you find it difficult making a magic ring you can chain 3 and then crochet dc x10 in the second chain from the hook. Sl st to the starting ch. (10)
Round 2: (Sc, *dc x2, tr, ch x2, tr, dc x2* in one stitch).
Then repeat what is in the parenthesis 4 more times. After you are done making the 5th star arm, sc in the next stitch.
Fasten off and weave in the tails.
Block the stars if you would like them to be more star-like in shape otherwise they will be a bit rounded at the points.
If you would like to make the stars into a nice sized crochet star garland, make 10 stars and then crochet a chain for it, spacing out the stars to your liking (I spaced my stars out every 25 chains) and making a sc with the chain and star to connect the star to the chain.
🐌Expert Tips
- Blocking Techniques: If you don't have a blocking board, you can use sewing pins and a folded towel or a foam mat to hold the pinned stars in place.
- Color Combinations: Experiment with different color combinations to create a festive look. For instance, using red and green yarn for a Christmas theme or pastel colors for a spring garland.
- Adding More Texture: Try adding a layer of puff stitches or a decorative edging to your stars for extra texture and visual interest.
🧵Pattern FAQs
You don’t necessarily have to, but blocking will create a crisper version of the star, which is hard to achieve with crocheting alone.
I’ve used crochet stars for garland and baby blankets, but the possibilities are endless!
I have never tried, but you can experiment if you like. I suggest using a thicker yarn and a larger hook if you want to create diversity in the size of the star.
