Crocheting a star may seem challenging, but here I take all the guesswork out on how to make a star with my Crochet Star Garland Pattern. Make the stars individually, then crochet them together with chains.
A few shapes in crocheting are easy to grasp - a square, rectangle, circle and triangle, but one of the most daunting is the star. A star has 5 points that go in all directions and taper at each end, making it difficult to wrap your head around how you are supposed to execute making a crochet star.
To make the crochet star below, you will need to make sure that you know how to make the basic crochet stitches: Magic ring, single crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, chains, and slip stitches. Once you know those stitches you are good to go. If you know those crochet stitches, you can crochet yourself a whole bunch of stars and then make a crochet star garland!

✏️ Things To Note:
- I used acrylic yarn, but you can use any type of yarn that suits your fancy. Just pay attention to the size of your yarn and the hook size.
- This is a crochet star garland pattern, but you can make just the stars and use them by itself, you don’t necessarily need to add them to a garland.
- I highly recommend blocking the stars after crocheting them as crochet likes to be round and not sharp, blocking them at least gets some of the roundness gone.

🍵Instructions
Crochet Star Garland Pattern:
This pattern is worked in rounds.
Round 1: Using the light yellow yarn, make a mr, immediately ch x2, then dc x10 in the circle. If you find it difficult making a magic ring you can chain 3 and then crochet dc x10 in the second chain from the hook. Sl st to the starting ch. (10)
Round 2: (Sc, * 2dc, tr, ch, tr, 2dc* in one stitch).
Then repeat what is in the parenthesis 4 more times. After you are done making the 5th star arm, sc in the next stitch.
Fasten off and weave in the tails.
Block the stars if you would like them to be more star-like in shape.
If you would like to make the stars into a nice sized crochet star garland, make 10 stars and then crochet a chain for it, spacing out the stars to your liking (I spaced my stars out every 25 chains) and making a sc with the chain and star to connect the star to the chain.
🐌Expert Tips
If you don't have a blocking board you can use sewing pins and a folded towel, or a foam mat to hold the pinned stars in place.
🧵FAQs
You don’t necessarily have to, but it will create a crispier version of the star which is hard to do with crocheting alone.
I’ve used crochet stars for garland and baby blankets so far, but the possibilities are endless!
I have never tried, but you can try if you like. I would suggest using a thicker yarn and larger hook if you wanted to do the pattern but create diversity in the size of the star.
