Making my crochet gingerbread man pattern is a lot easier than catching him. In fact this gingerbread man crochet pattern only takes a few hours to create!

Now I love gingerbread. Eating it, building cute gingerbread houses โhonestly I am surprised I don't have more gingerbread themed crochet patterns yet! I will say my gingerbread man amigurumi will not be my last crochet gingerbread pattern. Mainly because I have way too much brown yarn and I don't have enough holiday decorations for my house!
Before starting the gingerbread man crochet pattern I also made a santa crochet pattern and crochet snowman pattern to add to my crochet Christmas decorations! Now I have a few Christmas amigurumi patterns to go with my crochet candy cane blanket pattern and crochet Christmas tree decorations like my crochet Christmas pickle ornament, crochet Christmas bell pattern ornament, and my pattern for a crochet Christmas tree skirt.
I wonder if I can make ALL of my Christmas decor with crochet!
Now let's get started making my gingerbread man crochet pattern!

โ๏ธ Things To Note:
- Size: The gingerbread man amigurumi pattern is roughly 10 inches tall. If you use chunky yarn, realize that the finished crochet gingerbread man will be a bit bigger.
- Yarn under: I am starting to make my amigurumi in yarn under. I like the way it looks compared to traditional crochet. If you have trouble yarning under, you can make the pattern normally, but realize the proportions will be off since yarn under results in tighter rounds.
- Sewing: The legs, belly, and head of the crochet gingerbread man pattern is made in just one piece. Everything else is sewn on, make sure your amigurumi sewing skills are good, otherwise you might find it difficult.

On the other leg, count 3 sc stitches from the last stitch worked and make a sc into the next stitch. Sc x20 (21 total). You should now be where you first started this round.
This is the new beginning/end to your rounds (42). You should sew the opening between the legs closed either now or in the next couple of rounds. Make sure not to sew into the crochet stitches you are currently working in.

Crochet Ribbon:

With the reed yarn ch x40. Then in the second ch from the hook make a sc. Sc for the rest of the chain length. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Cut an 8-10inch piece of yarn and set aside.
Criss cross the ends of the ribbon, then bend the loop down to the criss cross point. With the 8inch piece of yarn, tie the middle of the ribbon together. You want to make a knot 2-3 times. Now you have a bow!
Sewing:
- Sew the arms 1 round down from the neck in line with the legs and body.
- Sew the ribbon to the neck area of the crochet gingerbread man. With the leftover yarn ends or a new piece of yarn.
Weave in any yarn ends.
Embroidery:
- Add a little white line to the outer half of the crochet lines, and a tiny crochet month in the middle stitch between the eyes.
And once you weave in all the ends, your new gingerbread man amigurumi made from my crochet gingerbread man pattern is completed!

๐Expert Tips
- Since we are working in a continuous spiral for the crochet gingerbread man pattern it can be hard to tell where each round begins and ends. I suggest using stitch markers if you need extra help.
- The stitches for this free crochet gingerbread man pattern are fairly simple, but the construction of this pattern makes it best suited for an intermediate to advanced crocheter. If you are a beginner and want to stretch your amigurumi wings, please check out the video for further help.
- Make sure your stitches are tight and that you stuff the crochet gingerbread man well. Not enough stuffing and it can lose shape.
๐งตPattern FAQs
It took me roughly 3hrs, but it might take others shorter or longer depending on how fast they can crochet.
Amigurumi is the Japanese term for a crochet doll made from yarn. It has gained popularity over the years so we see more and more designers using the term โamigurumiโ versus a โplush toyโ.
This pattern is not no sew, but maybe considered low sew since you only have to sew on the arms and bow. Which if you wanted to, you could just glue the bow on with hot glue or fabric glue.
