Decorate your home or office with a little love this Valentine’s day by making my crochet heart garland pattern! You can customize its length to fit any space!

Is Valentine's day a day I celebrate? Eh not really. My husband and I are pretty low-key when it comes to Valentine's day because we try to surprise each other with gifts throughout the year and show each other we care. But I will say I do love decorating for Valentines day! There's just something sweet about all the heart-shaped decor that just makes everything feel so warm and cozy.
The crochet heart garland isn’t my only Valentines day crochet decor, I also have my crochet heart pillow pattern that I made last year! I love putting this on my couch as a cute and adorable throw pillow. This year I made a throw size crochet heart blanket pattern that pairs perfectly with the pillow!

✏️ Things To Note:
- Size: Each crochet heart is roughly 4.5 inches wide. If you want to use smaller hearts you can check out my crochet heart scarf pattern and use the smaller heart pattern for some size variance.
- Yarn: I chose to do worsted weight (size 4 yarn). You can make this pattern in any weight of yarn - smaller weighted yarn will yield a smaller crochet heart and a bigger weight will create a larger heart. Just change the hook size according to your yarn type.
- In the round: The valentines day crochet heart garland is made in the round. If you are having trouble crocheting in the round, check out my crochet heart coaster pattern. There I make a flat crochet heart shape in rows. Same with my crochet heart keychain pattern if you were wanting a smaller heart pattern.

🍵Instructions for Crochet Heart Garland Pattern
The heart garland pattern is made in the round.

Round 1: Using any pink or red yarn make a mr, then ch x2 and dc x12 into the magic ring. Pull tight and sl st to the BEGINNING CHAINS (13).

Round 2: Ch x2 and make a dc into the sl st from the previous round. Then inc in every stitch (26).

Round 3: Sc + hdc into the next stitch. Then, dc, tr inc x3, dc inc, hdc, sc x5. Hdc + dc + hdc at the tip of the heart. Then sc x5, hdc, dc inc, tr inc x3, dc, hdc + sc. Sl st to the sl st from the previous round (38).

Round 4: Sc, hdc, dc inc, tr inc x4, dc inc, hdc, sc x9. Make 3 hdc stitches at the tip of the heart (in the dc from the last round). Then sc x9, hdc, dc inc, tr inc x4, dc inc, hdc, sc. Make a sl st into the sl st from the previous round and fasten off (52).
Making the Garland:

With white yarn ch x10, then make a sc into the top of the heart, right into the second stitch of the first triple crochet increase in the last round. Then ch x10-12 (based on tension) and connect with a sc to the exact spot on the other side of the heart. The heart should be able to lay flat and not fold at the center. If it is folding it means you need to add more chains between the sc connection points. Ch x20 and connect the next heart. Repeat as necessary.
And now the crochet heart garland pattern is done!
I hope you enjoyed making this pattern with me! And if you have any extra yarn you can make a few more of my crochet patterns! I used the magenta yarn for a pink version of my crochet potion pillow pattern - you can make a heart applique for the label to make it a love potion!
If you have red, white and pink leftover yarn you can also make my crochet tulip bag pattern!

🐌Expert Tips
- If you want sturdier hearts, feel free to make 2 hearts and then sew them together. The added layer will keep the hearts looking nice and crisp.
- The first 2 rounds start with chains and the last 2 rounds do not, this is because we want to create a gradual slope at the middle top part of the heart to create its iconic shape.
- For a unified and professional look, make sure you are adding the hearts in the same direction when adding the garland string since there is a front side and back side to this pattern.
🧵Pattern FAQs
Each heart takes less than 10 minutes to make, so multiply that by the amount of hearts you want to create! The garland string is only chains so it whips up pretty fast.
Absolutely! This pattern is perfect to use as a crochet large heart applique! You can use it for blankets, pillows, cardigans etc.
Of course! Just keep in mind that the hearts will be bigger and the hook will need to be a different size.
