    ✏️ Things To Note:

    1. Skill Level: This pattern is suitable for beginners who are comfortable with basic crochet stitches like double crochet and working in rounds. The heart appliqué requires some basic shaping, but don't worry, it's easy to follow along! The large heart appliques are also used on my crochet heart pillow pattern if you were wanting ideas on where to use them elsewhere for other patterns.
    2. Customization: You can easily adjust the size of the scarf by adding or subtracting rows. Feel free to experiment with different heart colors for a unique look!
    3. Heart Appliqués: The heart appliqués are attached on top of the scarf once the main body is finished. You can place them as close or as far apart as you'd like to create the perfect design.

    🪡 Materials Needed

    • Caron One Pound - scarlet red
    • Caron One Pound - white
    • 5mm hook
    • Tapestry needle

    💭Abbreviations to Remember (US terms)

    • Chains (ch)
    • Magic ring (mr)
    • Single crochet (sc)
    • Half double crochet (hdc)
    • Double crochet (dc)
    • Slip stitch (sl st)
    • Increase (inc)

    🧋Variations

    • Heart Color Variations: Instead of using just one color for the hearts, why not mix it up? Use multiple shades of red, pink, or even white for a playful, multicolored heart design. You could also add a pop of contrast with gold, silver, or pastel tones for a fresh twist!
    • Scarf Color Options: While the classic red is perfect for Valentine's Day, you can use other colors for the base of your scarf. Soft pinks, cream, or even a deep burgundy can create a lovely, elegant look. If you're making this scarf for someone with a favorite color, customize the base to suit their style!
    • Heart Shape Variation: If you want a more unique look, try making different shapes of hearts! Use a smaller heart for a delicate effect, or go big and bold with oversized hearts. You could even create some hearts with special patterns, like stripes or polka dots, for a quirky twist.

🍵Instructions for Crochet Heart Scarf Pattern

For this pattern, we will be working in the rows.

    Red Crochet Scarf:

Crochet a chain for the scarf.

Row 1: Using the red yarn, ch x28 (28).

Make rows of double crochet for the heart scarf.

Row 2: Dc in the 3rd chain from the hook. Then make dc stitches for the rest of the chain length. After, ch x2 and turn (26).

    Row 3-138: Repeat row 2 (26).

    Crochet Heart:

Make 2 hearts using all 3 rounds for a large heart, then 1 heart with just 2 rows for a medium sized heart.

First round for the crochet heart appliques.

Round 1: Using the white yarn, ch x2 and dc x15 into the ring. Then sl st to the top of the 1st dc you made, pull the ring tight (15).

Second round for the crochet heart appliques.

Round 2: Ch x1, then hdc into the same stitch. Dc x4 into the next stitch, then hdc inc in the next. Sc in the next 4 stitches.

You are now at the bottom of the heart so make a hdc, dc, and hdc into one stitch.

Then sc x4, and hdc inc in the next. Dc x4 in next, hdc in the next stitch. Then ch x1 and sl st to the sl st from joining the last round together (27). (Stop here for a medium heart)

Third round for the crochet heart appliques.

Round 3: Ch x1, then hdc where you made the first hdc in the last round. Then follow the rest of the sequence of stitches for the round:

Hdc, dc, dc inc x3 (one increase in the next 3 stitches), dc, hdc in the next 5 stitches, hdc + dc + hdc for the bottom stitch, hdc in the next 5 stitches, dc, dc inc x3, hdc x2, ch x1 sl st to the sl st from the first round to make a deep indent at the top of the heart (35).

Then fasten off and leave long ends for sewing.

    Sewing:

Sew the hearts to the end of the scarf.

Sew the hearts to where you want on the scarf. I did 2 large hearts at the bottom with the smaller heart on top all at slightly different angles.

    Scarf Fringe:

Adding fringe to the end of the scarf.

For the fringe cut 112 x12 inch pieces of yarn with the white yarn or a contrasting color.

To attach the fringe to the crochet heart scarf, grab 2 pieces of yarn, then pinch the strands of yarn at the middle and make a loop, insert a hook into the short side of the scarf and pull the yarn through the bottom stitch.

Adding fringe to the end of the scarf.

Then using your fingers take the ends of the fringe and loop them through the hole you made and pull tight.

Repeat the above step for the entire width of the scarf. Repeat on the other side of the scarf. I put 1 group of fringe per stitch.

After all the fringe is attached, trim the bottom so the yarn is nice and all lined up.

I hope you enjoyed making this sweet and cozy crochet heart scarf pattern! Whether you're gifting it to someone special or wearing it yourself, this scarf is sure to add a touch of love and warmth to any outfit this Valentine’s Day season.

    🐌Expert Tips

    • Tension Control: Make sure your tension is even throughout the project. If you're unsure, crochet a small swatch to check your gauge. Consistent tension ensures that your scarf will look neat and the heart appliqués will lay flat.
    • Perfecting Heart Appliqués: When creating the heart appliqués, take your time with the shaping. After finishing each heart, lightly steam block them with an iron (set on low) to help the shapes hold their form. This will give them a crisp, clean look when attached to your scarf.
    • Yarn Substitution: If you’re using a different yarn, check the yarn weight and ensure it matches the recommended worsted weight. If your substitute yarn is thinner or thicker, adjust your hook size accordingly to maintain the desired drape and size. You don't want to work with chunky yarn and a 5mm hook, so remember to check the hook recommendations on the yarn label!

    🧵Pattern FAQs

What yarn should I use for this crochet heart scarf?

For the best results, use medium-weight (worsted weight) yarn. The key is to choose a yarn that is soft yet durable. A classic red, pink, or white works perfectly for a Valentine's Day theme!

What if I want to make the scarf longer or shorter?

No problem! You can easily adjust the length of the scarf by adding or removing rows from the main body. Just make sure to add enough heart appliqués to balance the length and design. A longer scarf gives more room for hearts and fringe!

Can I use a different stitch instead of double crochet?

While double crochet creates a lovely, soft texture, feel free to experiment with other stitches, like half-double crochet or single crochet, if you prefer. Just keep in mind that it may slightly change the drape and look of the scarf.
