Turn basic crochet round coasters into watermelons with my Watermelon Crochet Coaster Pattern. These crochet watermelon coasters are a fun way to celebrate summer, especially for those ice-cold summer drinks!
I love making crochet coasters, and my favorite method is to work in the round. By making crochet coasters this way, you can create a coaster in just a few rounds. For instance, my crochet watermelon coaster can be completed in five rounds and takes only 20 minutes to make.
Similarly, my other round crochet coaster patterns, the Citrus Crochet Coaster Pattern and the Crochet Lemon Coaster Pattern, use a similar number of rounds and require the same amount of time to complete!

- Increase - inc, also noted as a "dc inc" for a double crochet version of the increase stitch.
* The ch x2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch. Skip over it and sl st to the first dc you made.
* If you see a stitch abbreviation with "x" after it, it means how many times you do that stitch in the following amount of stitches. For example: sc x6 would mean you make a single crochet in the next 6 stitches. Inc x2 means you make an inc in the next 2 stitches.

Watermelon Appliqués. Use the watermelon pattern to create appliqués for bags, hats, or other crochet projects. Simply fasten off after round 5 and sew or attach them to your desired item.

The crochet coaster pattern is made in rounds.
Round 1: Using pink, make a magic ring and immediately chain 2. Then dc x12 into the magic ring. To secure the round, sl st to the 1st dc in the round NOT THE CHAINS (12).
Round 2: Ch x2, then dc inc in every stitch from the previous round. Then sl st to the first dc in the round (24).
Round 3: Ch x2, then dc inc, dc and repeat for the rest of the round (36). Then sl st to the first dc in the round and fasten off the pink yarn and switch it to white.
Round 4: After joining the white, sc inc, sc x2 and repeat for the rest of the round (48). Slip stitch to the first sc in the round, then fasten off the white yarn and switch it to the green.
Round 5: After joining the green, sc in every stitch from the last round (48). Then fasten off the green yarn and weave in any ends.
Embroidery:
Using the black yarn and tapestry needle, create little watermelon seeds in the pink part of the watermelon. I made 8 seeds around round 2 but you can do it anyway you want. Optionally, you can use fabric paint to make the details.
