Embrace the strawberry trend by making this cute Crochet Strawberry Blanket Pattern! Made with solid granny squares and crochet strawberry appliquรฉs, it is easy to adjust the size from a baby blanket all the way to a king-size.

Finished crochet strawberry blanket on wooden table.

I love strawberries and think they are quite adorable. I adore them so much that I'm kind of addicted to crocheting them into everything I own! Last year, I made a crochet strawberry bag, but that wasn't enough; I needed MORE strawberries!

I created a crochet strawberry keychain for my backpack and a crochet strawberry pillow. After making some crochet strawberry coasters with gifted red cotton yarn, I felt satisfied until late spring arrived, and I craved a blanket to match the season. Naturally, I decided on a crochet strawberry blanket pattern.

This easy summer blanket celebrates big, juicy strawberries, the epitome of summer. I made a lap/baby blanket size, but you can easily adjust it by adding more solid granny squares. The crochet strawberry appliques on the squares add versatility, making it suitable for various projects, from bags to blankets.

Letโ€™s get started making this crochet strawberry blanket pattern!

๐ŸตInstructions for Crochet Strawberry Blanket Pattern

This part of the crochet strawberry blanket pattern is made in the round.

How to Make Solid Granny Squares:

The solid granny squares are the base of this pattern, and you will need the following amount of sold granny squares for the baby blanket.

    • 9x white
    • 8x rose
    • 8x peach
Slip stitching a crochet chain closed.

Round 1: With the 5.5mm crochet hook, ch x5 and then sl st to the first ch.

Finished first round of the solid granny square.

Then ch x3 (counts as a dc). Dc x2 into the circle. Then ch x2. After that *dc x3 into the circle and ch x28. Repeat from * 2 more times. You should have 4 clusters. Slip stitch into the top of the chains at the beginning of the round.

Start of second row of the solid granny square.

Round 2: Ch x2. Dc into each dc stitch from the previous round, dc x2 + ch x2 + dc x2 in each chain 2 corner stitch.

Finished second row of the solid granny square.

ย Then sl st to the beginning chains in the round.ย

Start of third row of the solid granny square.

Round 3-4: Repeat round 2. Dc in every stitch and (dc x2, ch x2, dc x2) into the corners.

Finished solid granny square on table.

After round 4: sl st to the beginning chains and fasten off the yarn.

    How to crochet a strawberry:

The crochet strawberry applique pattern is made in rows.

    • 7x strawberries, or more depending on your preference for the amount of strawberry granny squares.
Start of the crochet strawberry applique.

Row 1: With the 5mm crochet hook, ch x2 and turn.

Row 2: In the second chain from the hook, make an inc. (2) Then ch x1 and turn.

Row 3: Inc x2 (4). Then ch x1 and turn.

Midway through making the crochet strawberry applique.

Row 4: Sc in every stitch (4). Then ch x1 and turn.

Row 5: Inc, sc x2, inc (6). Then ch x1 and turn.

Row 6: Sc in every stitch (6). Then ch x1 and turn.

Midway through making the rows for the crochet strawberry applique.

Row 7: Inc, sc x4, inc (8). Then ch x1 and turn.

Row 8: Sc in every stitch (8). Then ch x1 and turn.

Three quarters of the way done crocheting the crochet strawberry applique.

Row 9: Inc, sc x6, inc (10). Then ch x1 and turn.

Row 10-11: Sc in every stitch (10). Then ch x1 and turn.

Finished crocheting the strawberry applique, minus the outer edge.

Row 12: Dec, sc x6, dec (8). Then ch x1 and turn.

Row 13: Dec, sc x4, dec (6). Then ch x1 and turn.

Finished crocheting the outer edge of the crochet strawberry applique.

After your last row, crochet around the edges of your strawberry if you want a neater finish and a slightly bigger strawberry. This should be equal to roughly 30-32 stitches. You want to put 2 stitches at the top corners of the strawberry and down at the bottom, otherwise its 1 stitch per row/stitch. Then fasten off and weave in the ends.

    Crochet Strawberry Stem and Leaves:

This pattern is made one stem/leaf at a time.

You want to make 1 for every crochet strawberry applique you make.

The first leaf of the strawberry is completed.

Step 1: With the 5mm hook, Ch x3, then in the second ch from the hook make a sc, then make a sc in the following stitch. This is the stem.

Step 2: Ch x4 and in the second ch from the hook make a sc. Then sc in the following 2 chains. Then sl st back to the stitch where you broke off and made chains for the first leaf.

    Finished strawberry stems and leaves.

Step 3: Repeat step 2 x3 more times.

    Strawberry applique with stem.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the strawberry stem and leaves to the top part of the strawberry.

Strawberry applique finished with seeds, stem and leaves.

With white yarn and tapestry needle, crochet little lines onto the strawberry.

    Weave in any loose ends.

    Assembly of the Strawberry Blanket:

Slip stitch the granny squares together.

Switch back to the 5.5mm hook for the rest of the blanket. Slip stitch the solid crochet granny squares together with the key lime colored yarn, by putting 2 granny squares right side out together and then going through the inner 2 most stitch loops, one from each side.

Slip stitch the granny squares together.

I alternate my colors like in the picture, but you can always go for a more random pattern if you'd like.

Slip stitch the granny squares together.

Once the granny squares are attached in one direction, sl st the same way as outlined above, when you get to the corners of the granny squares just crochet on top of the other corner stitch you previously made and keep going. This raises the yarn a little bit but not too much.

Double crochet around the edge of the granny square blanket.

Once all the squares have been attached, now it is time to make the border. The border is 2 rows of dc in key lime, You want to make these rows just like you made the granny squares. 1 stitch in each stitch, and dc x2 + ch x2 + dc x2 in each corner stitch.

Start a shell border for the last round of the crochet granny square blanket.

Fasten off the green yarn and switch to white. Now we are going to make the shell border.

Start a shell border for the last round of the crochet granny square blanket.

Shell border: Skip a stitch and then make 6 dcs in one stitch. Next skip a stitch and then make a sc. You just made a shell stitch. Repeat for the rest of the round. Then fasten off and weave in the end.

    Finished crochet strawberry blanket.

Attach the strawberry appliques on the outermost and middle white squares. (Or wherever you find pleasing) and stitch the strawberry appliques onto the blanket carefully.

    Finished crochet strawberry blanket.

Once all the sewing and weaving ends is all completed, you now have a cute crochet strawberry blanket.

If you have leftover green, white, and red yarn you can make a few winter seasonal blankets like my Candy Cane Crochet Blanket and my Candy Cane Crochet Border Blanket.

    ๐ŸŒExpert Tips

    • Yarn Quantity: Since I made a smaller-sized blanket, I only needed 1 skein of each colored yarn, but you may need more depending on the size of the blanket you want to create.
    • Color Variations: Experiment with different colors to create a unique design that suits your personal style.
    • Yarn Type: Using a mix of cotton and acrylic yarn can give your blanket a nice texture and warmth.
    • Finishing Touches: Consider adding a fun border or trim around the edge of the blanket to enhance the overall look.

    ๐ŸงตPattern FAQs

Can I make this crochet blanket in chunky yarn?

Absolutely! Using chunky yarn is a great way to increase the blanket's size without changing the design.

If I use chunky yarn, what size blanket can I get from not changing the design?

It will be about the size of a throw blanket, just make sure to change the hook size to match the yarn size.

If I wanted to make this blanket into a lovey, how many crochet granny squares do I need to make?

Loveys are 12 x 12 inches big and each granny square is about 5-6 inches, plus the border adds a few additional inches.

It is roughly 33 inches on each side, perfect for a baby blanket or lap blanket ๐Ÿ™‚ Each square is roughly 5.5-6inches depending on tension and hook and yarn size.
