If you're looking for a fun and easy project to work on, why not try making my Crochet Lemon Pattern? Whether you want to create a cute accessory or add some fruity decor to your home, this crochet lemon pattern is perfect for beginners and experienced crocheters alike.
Making a lemon plush is a great crochet idea for beginners. It's relatively easy to make and takes less than an hour. It's also easier to replicate things that we are familiar with in real life, like lemons, and transform them into amigurumi food since we have a general idea of how the outcome should look.
As some complicated crochet projects go, sometimes you just have to trust the process and your project won't look like anything until the final stretch - especially if there are a lot of pieces that need to be sewn together.

✏️ Things to Note:
- I used acrylic yarn for this crochet fruit. You can use acrylic, cotton, and even chunky yarn for the pattern if you are wanting to make a giant lemon. I would stay away from wool unless you are okay with it shrinking if you have to wash it.
- The base of the pattern only calls for single crochet (sc). Nothing fancy as far as other stitches go, so if you can single crochet you can make this crochet lemon pattern! If you are wanting to make the leaf, however, there are a few extra stitches: Like chains, Half Double Crochet, Double Crochet, and Treble Crochet. Making amigurumi or crocheted stuffed toys is actually quite simple!
- If needed, you can yarn under instead of yarn over. My stitches are tight when I single crochet, but if you have trouble keeping stitches tight instead of yarning over during a sc, yarn under. It creates a tighter stitch naturally. It might take a while to get used to the way to do the stitches this way, but most people who do amigurumi suggest yarning under.
🪡 Materials Needed
- A small ball of lemon yellow yarn from Red Heart
- A smidge of spring green yarn from Red Heart
- Polyfill
- H hook (5mm), my soured lemon uses a 6mm hook if you were wanting to adjust the size.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
- Black yarn is optional (if you want to make a face for the lemon)
💭 Abbreviations to Remember (US Terms):
- Magic ring (mr)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Increase (inc) - 2 stitches in the same stitch
- Chains (ch)
- Decrease (dec) - 1 stitch combining 2 stitches
- Double Crochet (dc)
- Half Double Crochet (hdc)
- Treble Crochet (tr) - (Also called triple crochet)
🧋 Variations
I like to add a sour face to the lemons to add some personality. To add a sour face take black yarn and tapestry needle and embroider eyes like this > < on one side. Additionally, you can add a mouth in between the eyes like this: ^ to further add a sour displeased face.
And now you have cute little lemons! You can use these in a crochet food playset, or make a bunch of them and fill up a clear vase with them for display in your kitchen or living room.

🐌Expert Tips
If your stitches are not tight when doing the decrease and large holes are appearing, try to do an invisible decrease.
To do an invisible decrease, insert your hook into the front loops of the first and second stitches you are decreasing. Then, yarn over like a normal sc. After that, pull the yarn through the first 2 loops on your hook. Finally, yarn over once more and pull through the remainder 2 loops on the hook.
🧵 Pattern FAQs
Nope! I use it, but I know it can be tricky to make sometimes. You can just create a slip knot, chain 2 and use the second chain from hook as your "ring" and begin making the stitches in there.
Crochet is the process and result of using yarn and a hook to make a textile. The textile can then be turned into clothes, blankets, or toys!
To each their own on this one! I prefer crocheting because it's only 1 needle versus 2, and it has a hook at one end which helps the stitches stay on and not fall off.
