This Crochet V-Stitch Scarf Pattern is perfect for you If you're looking for a simple yet stylish crochet project. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crocheter, all you need to know is how to make double crochets and chains, and you'll be able to create this beautiful scarf.

    Finished v-stitch scarf pattern.

The best part about making this crochet scarf pattern? You can use any type of yarn—solid, stripe, or ombre—and the scarf will still turn out super cute! I used Red Heart Yarns Parrot Stripe coloration for its gorgeous long color stripes that seamlessly melt into each other, creating a stunning, gradient effect.

The simple crochet scarf works up quickly, so in just a few hours, you’ll have a cozy new accessory for yourself or a thoughtful gift for someone special. It’s a one row repeat crochet scarf, making it a perfect mindless project to work on while you relax or watch TV. Plus, the repetitive nature of this crochet easy scarf pattern means you won’t have to constantly check your pattern! Plus this scarf design can also be used to make a v stitch infinity scarf by sewing the 2 ends together.

    ✏️ Things To Note:

    1. Yarn Choice: While I used Red Heart Yarns Parrot Stripe coloration for its stunning, long color stripes, feel free to experiment with any yarn you like. You can choose solid, ombre, or variegated yarn to give the scarf your unique touch. Just keep in mind that the yarn’s thickness will affect the final size and drape of the scarf.
    2. Gauge: This pattern doesn’t require a specific gauge, but it’s helpful to check your tension to ensure the scarf turns out the right width and length. If your stitches are too tight, the scarf may be smaller, while looser stitches may result in a wider scarf.
    3. Size Adjustments: The beauty of this one row repeat crochet scarf is its versatility! You can easily adjust the length by adding or subtracting rows. If you prefer a longer scarf or need a more oversized scarf, just keep working the pattern until you reach your desired size. The pattern I made is roughly 6.5ft long and 8 inches wide.
    4. Skill Level: This pattern is perfect for beginners and experienced crocheters alike. If you’re comfortable with double crochet and chains, you’ll be able to make this scarf with ease.

    🪡 Materials Needed

    • 2 Red Heart Yarn - parrot stripe
    • 6mm hook
    • Tapestry needle

    💭Abbreviations to Remember (US terms)

    • Chains (ch)
    • Double crochet (dc)

    🧋Variations

    • Add Fringe: At the ends of your scarf, add some fun fringe for an extra boho vibe. You can match the fringe to the colors of your scarf or go for a contrasting color to make it pop! Ive added fringe to my crochet star stitch scarf for a monotone look if you wanted to keep the scarf all one color.
    • Varying Stitch Width:
      • For a wider scarf, use a larger hook size or add more chains at the beginning.
      • For a more delicate, lacy look, try using a smaller hook and lighter yarn to create a more airy feel.
    • Add a Twist: For a fun infinity scarf look, simply sew the ends of your scarf together after completing the pattern to create a loop. You can also add buttons or a decorative brooch to personalize it further.
    • Crochet Scarf Shawl: Make your scarf a little wider and longer, and wear it as a cozy shawl or wrap. It’s a great way to make the scarf a versatile, multi-functional piece in your wardrobe.

🍵Instructions for Crochet V-Stitch Scarf Pattern

For this Crochet Scarf Pattern, we will be working in the rows.

    Crochet a chain.

    Row 1: Chain 30.

Showing what the first few double crochet v-stitches look like.

Row 2: In the 4th chain from the hook make a *dc, ch, and a dc. Then skip the next 2 chains* and repeat *.

End of first double crochet v-stitch row.

In the end you should have 2 chains, skip the second to last chain and in the very last chain make a dc. Then ch x2 and turn.

Row 3: Dc, ch, dc in the ch-1 space from the row below. Repeat that for the rest of the row. When you get done with the last v stitch, make a single dc in the turning chains space from the row below.

Repeat row 3 until you reach your desired length. I worked 116 rows, but you don’t have to use the same number of rows as I did.

    🐌Expert Tips

    • Check for Skipped Stitches: When working with v-stitches, it's easy to accidentally skip a stitch or miscount. Always double-check your stitch count at the end of each row to avoid any gaps in your pattern. If you notice a mistake, it's easier to fix it right away than to try to undo several rows later.
    • Choose the Right Hook Size: The hook size you use will significantly impact the final look of your scarf. If you're using a chunky yarn, you might want to use a larger hook (like a 8.0 mm or 9.0 mm) to achieve the desired drape and texture. For lighter yarns, stick to a smaller hook for a finer, more delicate finish.
    • Consistent Tension: Maintaining even tension throughout the project is key to achieving a neat and uniform scarf. If you notice your stitches are too tight or too loose, adjust your grip on the yarn or your hook. A consistent tension ensures the scarf has a smooth, even appearance, especially when using variegated yarn.

    🧵Pattern FAQs

Can I add fringe or other embellishments to the scarf?

Yes! Adding fringe or decorative embellishments like buttons or crochet flowers is a great way to personalize the scarf and make it truly your own.

How long will it take to finish the scarf?

The scarf works up very quickly! Depending on your speed, you can complete it in just a few hours, making it a great project for last-minute gifts or a quick accessory to add to your wardrobe.

Can I use any type of yarn?

Yes! This pattern is highly versatile, so you can use any type of yarn—whether it’s solid, striped, or ombre. The scarf will look cute with any yarn choice. Just be mindful of the yarn’s thickness, as it will affect the finished size and texture of your scarf.

I had read somewhere online that a v stitch can make any yarn color look good, and it seems to be correct. I used a solid color that didnt look good with anything else I had.
The scarf itself was very easy to make once you made it past the first 3 rows. The first two rows were a bit of a headache trying to understand what needed to be done, but by the 3 or 4th row everything was just repeating the same double stitch, chain, skip stitches pattern so you can do it from memory without needing to leave the computer open to look at it. The end-reslt scarf is lovely and now I want to make more. Thanks for the pattern!
