The weather is changing, and what better way to welcome fall then to make my easy Granny Stitch Scarf Pattern. You can make it in just a few hours so you can wear it on your next outing!

I love a good free easy crochet scarf pattern and this granny stripe scarf pattern definitely hits the spot this season. It's easy, and mindless since you don't have to look at the stitch when you are crocheting it! At least this is true for me lol! I just turn on a rerun of Gilmore Girls and after the first 2 rounds, use my fingers to find the space in between granny clusters to make the next rounds cluster.
Another scarf pattern I have that uses the humble granny stitch is my crochet triangle scarf pattern. It works up fast and is a quick way to use scrap yarn, or create a planned colorway to make it super chic!
I made the granny stitch scarf into an infinity scarf because I love infinity scarves! I love how you can wrap them around your neck to be extra toastie! If you are interested in making more infinity scarves, I have a crochet bean stitch infinity scarf pattern and a crochet camel stitch infinity scarf pattern, both are great and fast patterns to make. I really like that since the camel stitch is one sided you get 2 different textures on the scarf which I find visually stunning.
Now let’s get started making this crochet granny stitch scarf pattern!

✏️ Things To Note:
- Size: Feel free to add length to the free infinity scarf crochet pattern or shorten it - just make sure your chain is 3 + 1. If you want to make the infinity scarf into a cowl instead, check out my crochet cowl pattern. I use the alpine stitch for that one, but you can use it as a sizing guide for a granny stitch cowl.
- Yarn Type: You can use any type of yarn to make the crochet granny stitch scarf pattern! You can do chunky yarn, worsted, lace weight, cotton, wool, acrylic etc —it’s THAT versatile! I chose to use worsted weight acrylic, so remember to change the chain length as needed.
- Ends: You do not necessarily need to make this an infinity scarf, you can make this into a normal scarf by making it in rows with some tweaking. If you make it in rows, you can add fringe to the ends of the scarf like I do with my crochet green scarf pattern.
🪡 Materials Needed
- 4 different shades of Wander yarn by Furl I used - atlantis, tundra, foundry and agave.

🍵Instructions for Granny Stitch Scarf Pattern
The crochet granny stripe scarf starts off with a row of sc, but then joins together to make rounds.

Round 1: Ch x199, then in the second ch from the hook make a sc. Continue to make sc stitches for the rest of the row.

Then once you get to the end, sl st to the first sc you made in the row to make it a continuous loop —make sure to not twist it! (198). Fasten off the first color and join your second color.

Round 2: Ch x3, then dc x2 into the same stitch where you made the chains (ch x3 + 2 dc). *Skip 2 sc stitches and dc x3 into the next stitch. Repeat from * for the rest of the round.

Then sl st to the beginning chains to join the round. Fasten off the yarn (66 clusters).

Round 3: Flip your work over (you will flip your work every round now) and then join your new yarn color to a space between clusters. Ch x3 then, dc x2 into the same space. *Dc x3 into the next space. Repeat form * for the rest of the round. Then sl st to the beginning chains to join the round. Fasten off the yarn (66 clusters).

Round 4-16: Repeat round 3 (66 clusters). Remember to change your color and direction you are crocheting after each round.

Round 17: Flip your work over and then join your new yarn color to the top of a dc stitch. Then sc in every stitch. Sl st to the first sc in the round and then fasten off the yarn.

🐌Expert Tips
- Weaving in the yarn as you go will save your sanity when you get to the end and have to weave in all your yarn ends.
- If you want a less noticeable seam —make sure you turn after each round, and then stack where you start and end each round. Then when you wear the scarf, hide the seam at the base of the neck.
- For super secure ends —needle felt the ends slightly. Too much and the yarn ends will felt too much. You just want the yarn fibers to cross and tangle with each other so its harder to come undone
🧵Pattern FAQs
A granny cluster is a crochet term where you put 3 double crochet stitches in one space.
If you want to change the length of the scarf, just make sure the chain is multiplied by 3 + 1.
You can use it for anything! Sweaters, hats, more scarves, blankets, bags and pillows!
