Pumpkin pie is symbolic with fall and the holidays like Thanksgiving, so why not decorate the kitchen with my Crochet Pumpkin Pie Potholder Pattern all fall long. A perfect potholder for pulling pies and casseroles out of the oven.
Crochet potholders are great because they are quick to make and can be made to fit any holiday or season. Crochet pie potholders are perfect to decorate the kitchen for fall, and to use them as homemade crochet gifts for family and friends during the holidays.
My favorite pie is pumpkin pie, so I wanted to make crochet pumpkin pie potholders. This time of year I try to pumpkinfy as much as I can in my house including potholders.
So let's get started on my crochet pumpkin pie potholder pattern!

✏️ Things To Note:
- I made this with cotton yarn. You really want to avoid acrylic and chunky yarns for potholders due to them not retaining heat well. You want to use yarn, like cotton, that is heat resistant and won't melt under high temperatures like acrylic.
- The finished size of the crochet pumpkin pie pattern is roughly 10 inches in diameter.
- I made this with orange cotton, but you can change the color for different pies.
🪡 Materials Needed
- Yarn colors: 1 ball each of orange, white, and tan cotton yarns
- H hook (5mm)
- Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends and sewing pieces together
💭 Abbreviations to Remember (US Terms)
- Magic ring (MR)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Double crochet (dc)
- Increase (inc) - 2 stitches in the same stitch
- chains (ch)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
🧋 Variations
Switch out the orange yarn with yellow or green for lemon or key lime pies.
🍵 Instructions for Crochet Pumpkin Pie Potholder
Round 1: Make a mr, next ch x2 and then dc x12 into the mr, sl st to first dc (12). If you find it difficult making a magic ring you can chain 2 and then in the second chain from hook, slip stitch then ch x2 and crochet dc x12 in the second chain from the hook, then sl st to first dc.. (12)
Every round you will begin with a ch x2 but that does not count as a stitch, that is for you to get the height necessary to make the next dc.
Round 2: Ch x2, inc in every dc, sl st to first dc. (24)
Round 3: Ch x2, (inc dc, dc) repeat what's in the brackets for the rest of the round, sl st to first dc. (36)
Round 4: Ch x2, (inc dc, dc x2) repeat what's in the brackets for the rest of the round, sl st to first dc. (48)
Round 5: Ch x2, (inc dc, dc x3) repeat what's in the brackets for the rest of the round, sl st to first dc. (60)
Round 6: Ch x2, (inc dc, dc x4) repeat what's in the brackets for the rest of the round, sl st to first dc. (72)
Round 7: Ch x2, (inc dc, dc x5) repeat what's in the brackets for the rest of the round, sl st to first dc. (84)
After making an orange circle and then a tan circle, you will want to crochet them together with a shell border as described below:
Shell border:
Round 8: With tan yarn before crocheting shells, you will want to SINGLE crochet around the edge going through both the orange and tan circles. You will want to do an increase, and then sc x6 and repeat around the entire edge (96).
Round 9: Skip a stitch and then make 6 dcs in one stitch. Next skip a stitch and then make a sc. You just made a shell stitch.
Repeat for the rest of the round.
When you reach the end of the shell round ch x10 then sl st into the same stitch you started the chs from. Fasten off and weave in the end.
Whip cream:
Round 1: Make a mr, next ch x2 and then dc x12 into the mr, sl st to first dc (12). If you find it difficult making a magic ring you can chain 2 and then in the second chain from hook, slip stitch then ch x2 and crochet dc x12 in the second chain from the hook, then sl st to first dc. (12)
Every round you will begin with a ch x2 but that does not count as a stitch, that is for you to get the height necessary to make the next dc.

Round 3: Shell stitch round- Skip a stitch and then make 6 dcs in one stitch. Next skip a stitch and then make a sc. You just made a shell stitch. Repeat for the rest of the round. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Sew the whip cream to the orange part of the pumpkin pie.
Now you have a cute crochet pumpkin pie potholder!
🧵 Pattern FAQs
No, it is synthetic yarn and will melt if heated too much.
It has to have 2 sides. This is because dc stitches have gaps and only making the potholders one sided will not be efficient.
