My Bohemian Crochet Pillow makes use of the popular crochet granite stitch. The crochet granite stitch is a really popular stitch with a striking or subtle appearance. Best of all it's super easy to make!
The bohemian crochet pillow pattern is a perfect pillow to add to your repertoire of desert boho pillows! It pairs nicely with my Crochet Cactus Pillow Pattern and Free Crochet Cactus Pattern if you were looking for a variety in boho crochet pillow patterns.
The bohemian pillow is made using the granite stitch crochet pattern, which is also called the moss stitch. The boho crochet pillow, though it looks complicated, is actually quite simple and is made using the crochet moss stitch in the round. As long as you know how to make single crochet and chain stitches as well as work both sides of a chain, you can make this pattern.
The best part about this hand crochet pillow is that you can make it into a pillow, or you can adjust the size easily enough to make it into a crochet pillow cover. Then if you feel like you want to switch the bohemian pillow out for a different boho throw pillow - you can!
Crocheting pillow patterns can be easy or as hard as you make them. While this crochet pillow pattern is fairly straightforward, the color changing may make it appear difficult, so you may want to limit the number of times you switch your colors if you don't have a ton of experience.
Now I made this free crochet pillow pattern using scrap yarn, so the colors I mentioned are closest to what I had used. If like me you have a TON of scrap yarn and want to make things other than scrap blankets, I suggest my Crochet Planets and Solar System Play Set or any of my smaller crochet projects. The crochet keychain patterns are a great way to use up any small bits like in my Crochet Rainbow Keychain Pattern or Crochet Strawberry Keychain Pattern.

What makes the crochet granite stitch unique compared to other basic stitches?
- The crochet granite stitch uses less yarn than a single crochet because of the chains. So, its more economical if you are on a yarn budget.
- The crochet granite stitch stretches more than a normal single crochet, but still maintains thick coverage with little holes. Perfect for gloves like my Crochet Fingerless Gloves in Granite Stitch, and Crochet Linen Stitch Scarf Pattern. The crochet granite stitch is also called the crochet moss stitch and crochet linen stitch.
- You can easily switch out colors every few rows to create wonderful patterns. Making it very versatile for design like we see in my bohemian crochet pattern below.
I used 9 total colors for this crochet scrap yarn pattern. Feel free to add more colors or keep it simple to just a few colors or even just one color.
Like I mentioned before this is a scrap yarn project so I do not have the labels for the yarn I used but I did use these colors (IN THIS ORDER):
- Soft yellow
- Yellow
- Dark yellow, almost like stone ground mustard in color
- Orange
- Red
- Raspberry
- Maroon
- Teal/ Turquoise
- Light Blue
I used the colors in this order, and when I was done with this sequence, I reversed myself back up the list, only using light blue or light yellow for one round before making my ascendance/descendance on the list.
Now that i got that out of the way - onwards to the bohemian crochet pillow pattern!

🍵 Instructions for Bohemian Crochet Pillow
This pattern is worked in the round.
The final size of the pillow is 12x12 inches. So a smaller pillow.
If you would like to make the boho pillow bigger based on the size crochet pillow you need, feel free to do so! This is an easy pattern to adjust height and width of, just add more beginning chains and then rows!
Round 1: Ch x66 +1 turning chain. (66 +1)
Round 2: In the second ch from hook, make a sc, ch + skip the chain below, and make a sc into the next chain. Repeat for the rest of the row.
When you get to the last crochet on the end make sc, ch, then turn the piece so the opposite side of the chain that hasn’t been worked is now on top, then sc into the same chain your last sc went into. So that end stitch should be sc,ch,sc.
Crochet the rest of the round like you did in the first part. (68)
Round 3: You are going to switch colors as outlined above in my list of colors used by making a sc in the last rows chain loop (not the chain but its entirety) when yarning over after inserting the hook into the stitch, yarn over with a new color and pull the new color through.
After starting the round with a sc, ch and skip the previous rounds sc, and then sc into the chain loop below.
For every round you are going to ch over the previous rows sc and sc into the chain gaps (not the actual ch) Switching colors for every pass.
Round 4-50: Repeat round 3 but with different colors each time.
When the pillow is as big as you want it, fasten off the last color but leave a long tail for sewing, sew the top of the pillow shut, remembering to stuff the pillow along the way. And your pillow is all ready to use!
🧵 Pattern FAQs
Its also called the moss stitch and linen stitch, but essentially it is where you are alternating single crochet and chain stitches for each row or round.
Absolutely! You will just want to crochet the edges or sew them together. This way also makes it easier to make the pillow into a crochet pillow cover.
In the round, you can say the inside is the wrong side, but when it is made in rows there is no wrong or right side because you flip your work.
