What better way to show off your love for books than with my Crochet Love Letter Book Sleeve? It also can keep your kindle protected!
Whether you enjoy reading conventional books, or books on your kindle, this is a great pattern to use as a crochet kindle cover or book sleeve.
I personally love books and have a never ending pile of “need to read” books. This crochet love letter book sleeve is perfect because most of my books can fit it, and it can protect my books from any soft wear and tear they might receive from being jostled around in my bag.
There’s also something poetic about having a book inside of a crocheted love envelope, which makes the book itself the true love letter.

✏️ Things To Note:
- I made this pattern to fit most smaller books and kindles (shown). This pattern can be adjusted to fit larger books if you like.
- I made this pattern using double crochet, but if you were wanting a tighter stitched book sleeve, you can use a hdc or sc, just add more rows.
- The crochet love letter book sleeve or crochet kindle cover is roughly 7 inches wide. If you need it bigger, adjust the chain length.

🧋Variations
While I left my crochet love letter plain and simple, you can add extra adornments to the pattern if you like! Like a border on the exposed crochet edge, or maybe switching out the double crochet stitch with a more textural stitch like the sedge stitch or crunch stitch.
🍵Instructions for Crochet Love Letter Book Sleeve
Crochet Envelope:
Row 1: Ch x27 and turn.
Row 2: In the third chain from the hook, make a dc.
Continue making double crochets in each chain for the rest of the row (25). Ch x2 and turn. (Do not crochet in the turning chains, they simply help you turn your work to the other side, never work in them)
Row 3-23: Dc in each available stitch (25) Double check that your book or kindle can fit the sleeve by folding it into 3rds. It should wrap around your device or book fully on the front and back and then halfway only halfway on the third section.
Fold your white rectangle into thirds (or near thirds). You want to make sure that 2 of the 3 sections cover the book or kindle, and then the last section only goes down about halfway over the front.
Once you fold it the way you want it, sew the sides shut, do not sew the top flap of the envelope to the base. You want to be able to lift it open.
Crochet Heart Pattern:
This pattern is made in rounds.
Round 1: Make a mr loop, then dc x15 inside of the ring. Sl st to the top of the 1st dc you made and then pull the mr tail tight.
Round 2: Ch x2
and then dc into the same stitch. Make 4tr into the next stitch.
2dc into the following stitch
and then make a hdc in each of the next 4 stitches.
Now we are at the bottom of the heart:
Dc, tr, dc in the next stitch (this will help create the point on the hearts bottom as well as help you turn to the other side
Other side of the heart:
Hdc into the next 4 stitches, 2dc into the following stitch, 4tr into the next stitch, dc into the next stitch. Then ch x2 and sl st into the same stitch.
You should now have a heart shape. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Then take the heart you made and sew it to the middle edge of the front flap of the book sleeve.
Weave in any loose ends and your crochet love letter book sleeve or crochet kindle cover is done!
🐌Expert Tips
Since this is a flat pattern project, there is no right or wrong side of the project until after you sew it. You want the sewn edges on the inside because it looks neater.
🧵Pattern FAQs
Absolutely! It will add a bit of cushion for extra protection! Just adjust the chain length at the beginning otherwise it will be too big.
If you want to add a border you absolutely could! Once the envelope is constructed, before you add the heart, that is the best time to add a border if you want one.
You can try the candy cane stripe border, or crab stitch border, or a shell stitch would look cute!
