Notes

  1. Adjustable Size: The crochet love letter book sleeve pattern is designed to fit most smaller books and Kindles, but it can easily be adjusted to accommodate larger books if needed. Simply modify the starting chain length and add extra rows to achieve your desired size. This flexibility makes it a versatile pattern for a variety of devices and books.
  2. Stitch Options: While I used half double crochet (hdc) for the crochet love letter book sleeve pattern, you can opt for a different stitch depending on your preference for a tighter or looser fabric. If you prefer a denser, firmer texture, try using single crochet (sc) instead of half double crochet. Keep in mind that switching stitches may require you to add or subtract rows to maintain the correct size.
  3. Width of the Sleeve: The finished crochet kindle cover or book sleeve measures approximately 7 inches in width. If you need the sleeve to be wider or narrower, adjust the starting chain length accordingly to match your book or device’s dimensions. By customizing the width and stitch choice, you can create a perfectly sized sleeve to protect your reading materials, whether they’re larger or smaller than the standard fit

Instructions

Crochet Envelope:

  • Ch x26 and turn. you can use any starting chain to adjust for book sizes.
  • Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, make a hdc.
  • Continue making hdc's in each chain for the rest of the row (25). Ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 2-27: Hdc in each available stitch (25). Double check that your book or kindle can fit the sleeve by folding the crochet rectangle in half.
  • Row 28: Hdc dec, sc x21, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 29: Hdc dec, sc x19, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 30: Hdc dec, sc x17, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 31: Hdc dec, sc x15, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 32: Hdc dec, sc x13, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 33: Hdc dec, sc x11, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 34: Hdc dec, sc x9, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 35: Hdc dec, sc x7, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 36: Hdc dec, sc x5, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 37: Hdc dec, sc x3, hdc dec. Then ch x1 and turn.
  • Row 38: Hdc dec, sc x1, hdc dec. Then fasten off the yarn and weave in any ends.
  • Fold your envelope into thirds (or near thirds). You want to make sure that 2 of the 3 sections cover the book or kindle, and then the last section (the triangle) only goes down about two-thirds down the front.
  • Once you fold it the way you want it, sew the sides shut, do not sew the top flap of the envelope to the base. You want to be able to lift it open.

Crochet Heart Pattern:

  • This pattern is made in rounds.
  • Round 1: Make a mr loop, ch x2 then dc x15 inside of the ring. Sl st to the top of the 1st dc you made and then pull the mr tail tight.
  • Round 2: Ch x2, and then dc into the same stitch. Make 4tr into the next stitch.  2dc into the following stitch
  • and then make a hdc in each of the next 4 stitches.
  • Now we are at the bottom of the heart:
  • Dc, tr, dc in the next stitch (this will help create the point on the hearts bottom as well as help you turn to the other side
  • Other side of the heart:
  • Hdc into the next 4 stitches, 2dc into the following stitch, 4tr into the next stitch, dc into the next stitch. Then ch x2 and sl st into the same stitch.
  • You should now have a heart shape. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
  • Next, take the crocheted heart you’ve created and sew it securely to the center of the front flap of your book sleeve. This will give your sleeve a lovely, personal touch. Be sure to align the heart properly, ensuring it sits in the middle for a balanced look.
  • Once the heart is in place, carefully weave in any loose yarn ends from both the heart and the rest of the sleeve. You can do this by threading the loose ends into a yarn needle and weaving them through the stitches on the inside of the sleeve. This will help to prevent the yarn from unraveling and keep the finish neat.
  • After securing the heart and weaving in all the loose ends, your crochet book sleeve or crochet Kindle cover is now complete! You've created a beautifully functional accessory, perfect for protecting your books or Kindle in style.
