Spring is here and what better way to welcome it than to drink your tea with a cute Crochet Flower Coaster. These crochet Sakura or cherry blossom coasters look difficult to make, but are easy to do for intermediate crocheters!
I love spring. It reminds me of new beginnings. The flowers are budding, some already in bloom. Like the crocuses and the cherry blossoms. I promised myself that one of these years I’ll go to Japan to see their cherry blossom festivals.
I'm lucky that I currently live in an area that has a ton of spring flowers, but there is just something so magical about going to see Sakura trees bloom at the base of Mount Fuji. I’m so obsessed with this idea that I even made a Japanese knot bag to resemble Mount Fuji with cherry trees.
These cherry blossom crochet coasters actually came into existence from trying to make cherry blossoms for my bag. I was making them way too big at first and realized that I could make them into crochet flower coasters. So, I got to work tweaking the pattern and this is the end result!

✏️ Things To Note:
- I made this pattern using cotton yarn. Cotton yarn is great for crochet coasters because it is good at being heat resistant, so it won't melt, and it soaks up liquid easily since it is cotton. Acrylic doesn't do this.
- I made the crochet cherry blossom pattern with coasters in mind, but you can use it as large crochet cherry blossom appliques for a blanket or pillow.
- I made this pattern using 2 colors, but feel free to make it in 1 solid color if you would like.
🪡 Materials Needed

- Tapestry needle

- Other colors used for the other Sakura blossoms seen are country rose and rose pink.

🐌Expert Tips
If your crochet cherry blossom coasters are turning out too small for your liking, increase your hook size!
🧵FAQs
Wool is a good alternative since it is heat resistant, water absorbent and antimicrobial.
It isn’t necessary to do so, but if you feel like it would help your crochet flower coasters from slipping around on your desk give it a shot!
You can use them as appliques for totes, cardigans, blankets, pillows etc.!

I Wish there were knitted patterns for the coasters, as they are so lovely.
Sadly I can't crochet but I knit well.

Thank you for such a lovely pattern, Kim! Japan is one of my dream destinations, too 🙂
There's always a chance I miscalculated something along the way, but in the final round, doing slst x3 instead of x2 worked for me. So, if someone struggles to get the bumps right, try doing that!
