The Crochet Bean Stitch is not only beautiful but also easy to master, making infinity scarves like this a breeze. While the crochet bean stitch may look intimidating, it’s straightforward once you know the steps!
I love being extra cozy in winter. There’s something comforting about stepping out into the cold air, bundled in layers of shawls, jackets, and scarves.
Being wrapped in these protective layers feels like a warm, weighted shield against the harsh elements. Each piece adds its own unique touch, creating a perfect blend of style and warmth. A few of my favorite crochet scarves outside of this one are my crochet moss stitch scarf and winter crochet scarf.
This crochet bean stitch infinity scarf is one of my newer additions to my ever-growing scarf collection, and it has quickly become my new favorite.
The thick texture and beautiful stitch pattern make it a standout accessory for any winter outfit. Hopefully, after you make your very own scarf, it will become your favorite too!

What is a Crochet Bean Stitch?
The bean stitch is similar to a puff stitch, but without the first yarn-over. Instead, you pull up 6 loops on the hook by making a single crochet (sc), a half double crochet (hdc), and another hdc in the same stitch without going through any of the loops at the end. After creating these 3 stitches, you will have 6 loops on the hook. Then, you go through all the loops and immediately make a chain to secure the stitch closed.
✏️ Things To Note:
- Yarn Choice: I used a wool/acrylic blend yarn for the scarf, but you can use any yarn you prefer for this pattern: acrylic, wool, cotton, etc.
- Stitch Simplicity: While the crochet bean stitch looks intimidating, it’s actually easy to make. I’ve included pictures of the process for reference.
- Cowl Dimensions: The finished crochet infinity scarf is about 6 feet in length and 7-8 inches wide, perfect for wrapping around your head loosely twice! Try my Chunky Crochet Cowl Pattern for a more snug cowl design.

🍵 Instructions for Crochet Bean Stitch Infinity Scarf
This pattern is made in rows.
Row 1: Ch x25 and turn.
Row 2: In the second ch from the hook make a bs.
To make a bean stitch (bs), insert hook into the ch, then yo and pull up a loop ( 2 loops on hook). Then, yo and insert a hook into the same ch and pull up a loop (4 loops). Next, yo and insert a hook into the ch and pull up a loop (6 loops).
Then yo and pull through all the loops.
Immediately make a ch.
Skip the next ch and repeat the above process for making another bean stitch. Repeat for the rest of the row.
The last stitch in the second row was a ch to secure the last bean stitch. From here, make another ch as this is your turning ch. Essentially you will be doing 2 chains at the end of each row. 1 for securing the bean stitch and 1 for turning.
Row 3: Skip the first stitch (the stitch that secured the bean), and stitch directly into the below bean stitch.
For the rest of the row, skip the ch stitches and work directly into the bean stitch.
At the end of the row, ch x1 and turn.
Row 4-150: Repeat row 3. Make longer or shorter if needed. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Sewing: Sew the two ends of the crochet infinity scarf together and then weave in tails.
Once that is done you now have a cute crochet bean stitch infinity scarf ready for the next cold winters day!

🐌Expert Tips
- Yarn Substitution: If you want to experiment, you can substitute with a lighter or heavier yarn; just be mindful of adjusting your hook size accordingly.
- Color Variations: Consider using a gradient or variegated yarn to add visual interest to your scarf without needing to change colors manually.
- Adding Texture: For additional texture, you can alternate bean stitches with another stitch, like single crochet, for a unique look.
- Blocking for Shape: After finishing your scarf, consider blocking it to even out the stitches and enhance the overall shape and drape.
🧵 Pattern FAQs
You can use stitch markers, or count the number of bean stitches as it should be the same number per row.
That's perfectly fine and it will end up being a similar texture.
Absolutely! Just don't connect the scarf ends together and you are good to go.
