This crochet cat coaster free pattern is simple and beginner-friendly, so even if you're just starting out, you’ll be able to make these adorable crochet cat face coasters in no time!
The pattern is worked in the round, and it’s easy to follow with a little knowledge of basic crochet stitches. The magic happens in the last round when we add the kitty ears, and then, once the coaster is all crocheted up, we finish with some adorable embroidery for the cat’s face. It's the purrfect mix of crochet and creativity!
I’ll admit, when I first started designing my crochet cat coaster, I tried to stick with the shape of my other animal coasters, but the chubby bottom of the cat face just wasn’t meow-mazing. After some trial and error, I settled on a rounder design, and now I think it’s absolutely purrfect!

🐌Expert Tips
- Keep Your Tension Even: To ensure a neat and uniform look, try to keep your tension consistent throughout the pattern. If you find your stitches too tight or too loose, adjust your grip or try using a larger or smaller hook to get the right fit.
- Mark the Beginning of the Round: When working in the round, it can be tricky to keep track of your starting point. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round, so you don’t lose your place as you go.
- Block Your Coasters: Once your coaster is complete, lightly block it by dampening it with water and gently shaping it to keep it flat and crisp. This step helps your coaster maintain its shape, especially if you’re using yarn that tends to curl up.
- Embroider with Care: When embroidering the face, keep your stitches loose and light. Don’t pull the thread too tight to avoid distorting the crochet. Experiment with different stitch types (like French knots for the nose) to add texture and character.
🧵Pattern FAQs
The time it takes can vary, but most coasters can be completed in under an hour, making them a quick and satisfying project!
Yes! Cotton coasters can typically be machine washed on a gentle cycle. Just make sure to lay them flat to dry to maintain their shape.
It’s best to use 100% cotton yarn. Cotton is absorbent, durable, and easy to wash, making it perfect for coasters.
To prevent curling, make sure to maintain consistent tension throughout your stitches. Blocking your finished coasters can also help them lay flat.
