The Crochet Bean Stitch is not only beautiful but also easy to master, making infinity scarves like this a breeze. While the crochet bean stitch may look intimidating, it’s straightforward once you know the steps!

I love being extra cozy in winter. There’s something comforting about stepping out into the cold air, bundled in layers of shawls, jackets, and scarves.

Being wrapped in these protective layers feels like a warm, weighted shield against the harsh elements. Each piece adds its own unique touch, creating a perfect blend of style and warmth. A few of my favorite crochet scarves outside of this one are my crochet moss stitch scarf and winter crochet scarf.

This free infinity scarf crochet pattern is one of my newer additions to my ever-growing scarf collection, and it has quickly become my new favorite.

The thick texture and beautiful crochet bean stitch scarf pattern make it a standout accessory for any winter outfit. Hopefully, after you make your very own scarf, it will become your favorite too!

    ✏️ Things To Note:

    1. Yarn Choice: For this scarf, I used a wool/acrylic blend yarn, but you can choose any yarn that suits you, such as acrylic, wool, cotton, or even a combination of them. The yarn you pick will influence the texture and warmth of your scarf, so feel free to experiment with what you like best.
    2. Stitch Simplicity: The crochet bean stitch may seem tricky at first glance, but it’s surprisingly simple to master. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll find the stitch has a lovely texture that adds a unique touch to your project. With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to create a beautiful, textured scarf in no time.
    3. Cowl Dimensions: The finished crochet infinity scarf is about 6 feet in length and 7-8 inches wide, perfect for wrapping around your head loosely twice! Try my Crochet Cowl Pattern for a more snug cowl design.

    🪡 Materials Needed

    • About 750 yards of any type of yarn you would like to use.
    • Size 6.5mm hook
    • Tapestry or darning needle for weaving in the ends.

💭 Abbreviations to Remember (US Terms)

    • Chains (ch)
    • Bean Stitch (bs)
    • Yarn over (yo)

    * The ch x1 at the end of each row does not count as a stitch in the row, it is a turning chain.

    * If you see a stitch abbreviation with "x" after it, it means how many times you do that stitch in the following amount of stitches. For example: sc x6 would mean you make a single crochet in the next 6 stitches. Inc x2 means you make an inc in the next 2 stitches

🍵 Instructions for Crochet Bean Stitch Infinity Scarf

This pattern is made in rows.

To make a bean stitch (bs), insert hook into the ch, then yo and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Then, yo and insert a hook into the same ch and pull up a loop (4 loops). Next, yo and insert a hook into the same ch and pull up a loop (6 loops).

Finished bean stitch with a chain.

Then yo and pull through all the loops.

    *Immediately make a ch.

    Finished row 1.

Skip the next ch and repeat the above process for making another bean stitch. Repeat from * for the rest of the row.

After the last bean stitch, ch x2 (instead of 1) and turn.

    Starting row 2.

Row 2: Make a bs directly below the last rows bs - where the gap is. But make sure you make the stitch into the little leg of the bean stitch that pokes out. Ch x1. Repeat for the rest of the row.

    Finished row 2.

At the end of the row, ch x2 and turn.

A few rows of crochet bean stitches.

Row 3-150: Repeat row 2. Make longer or shorter if needed. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Sewing: Sew the two ends of the crochet infinity scarf together and then weave in tails.

Once that is done you now have a cute crochet bean stitch infinity scarf ready for the next cold winters day! This infinity scarf crochet pattern is free for everyone and perfect for beginners.

If you are wanting to make more crochet infinity scarves, I have a crochet Christmas scarf and crochet camel stitch scarf that are perfect additions to an infinity scarf collection!

You can also turn a few of my regular scarves into infinity scarves by sewing the ends closed like my crochet v stitch scarf pattern and crochet houndstooth pattern!

    🐌Expert Tips

    • Yarn Substitution: If you want to experiment, you can substitute with a lighter or heavier yarn; just be mindful of adjusting your hook size accordingly.
    • Color Variations: Consider using a gradient or variegated yarn to add visual interest to your scarf without needing to change colors manually.
    • Adding Texture: For additional texture, you can alternate bean stitches with another stitch, like single crochet, for a unique look.
    • Blocking for Shape: After finishing your scarf, consider blocking it to even out the stitches and enhance the overall shape and drape.

    🧵 Pattern FAQs

I’m struggling to keep the same number of stitches in each row. How can I ensure I have the correct stitch count?

You can use stitch markers, or count the number of bean stitches as it should be the same number per row.

Instead of the crochet bean stitch, could I just crochet puff stitches instead?

That's perfectly fine and it will end up being a similar texture.

Can I make this into a scarf instead of an infinity scarf?

Absolutely! Just don't connect the scarf ends together and you are good to go.
