The Grit Stitch Crochet Pattern, also known as the lemon peel crochet stitch, is an easy stitch to learn if you know the crochet basics! All you need to know is how to make single and double crochet stitches.
As mentioned before the crochet grit stitch is also known as the lemon peel stitch and the crochet seed stitch. I personally refer to it as the grit stitch because it is a really good textured stitch that helps at getting grit and grime off dishes when using it as a dishcloth.
Heavily textured crochet stitches are perfect for crochet dishcloths and washcloths. A few of my favorites to use besides the lemon peel crochet stitch are the Crochet Crunch Stitch, Crochet Wattle Stitch Pattern and the Suzette Stitch Crochet Pattern. All of them are unique stitches that could create a lovely housewarming gift.
Another idea for a gift is to pair the grit or should I say lemon peel stitch dishcloth with my Crochet Spa Set as a lovely last minute housewarming gift.
Other things you can make with the crochet seed stitch is a grit stitch crochet scarf or Crochet Grit Stitch Blanket Pattern. Both also make great presents!

✏️ Things To Note:
- I used Lily Sugar n Cream cotton yarn to create this crochet lemon peel stitch dishcloth. You can use any type of yarn if you are just making a crochet stitch swatch, but if you are trying to make a crochet dishcloth or washcloth it is best to use cotton.
- Here I make a washcloth, but you can use it as a dishcloth or if you change the sizing of the chains you can even make a blanket! It is easy and works up fast! If you want to make the crochet grit stitch into a blanket you can use any yarn.
- The finished size is roughly 8 inches x 8 inches.

🍵 Instructions for making the Grit Stitch Crochet Pattern
How to crochet the grit stitch:
Row 1: Using light yellow cotton yarn, ch x30 +1 for the turning ch. (30 +1)
Row 2: Starting in the second chain from the hook make a sc. Then a dc in the next stitch.
The grit stitch is made alternating single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) stitches.
Repeat the process of sc, dc for the rest of the row. Ch x1 and turn. The ch is a turning ch so do not work in it. Skip over it in the next row and go directly to the last stitch worked. (30)
Row 3-24: If your last stitch in the last row was a dc (which it should have been) start off with a sc, then dc and repeat like the last row.
Remember to ch +1 for turning after each row. (30) When all the rows are complete, fasten off and weave in the tail.
Alternatively, when all rows are completed you can crochet along the edge for a cleaner finish.
And now you have your own lemon peel stitch crochet dishcloth made from my grit stitch crochet pattern! Cheaper and cuter than the washcloths you can find at the store.
