Today, I’ll guide you through the Suzette Stitch Crochet Pattern, a simple yet versatile pattern that's ideal for beginners. If you're familiar with chaining, single crochet, and double crochet, you'll be mastering this stitch in no time!

The Suzette Stitch creates a beautiful texture that works wonderfully for various projects. The swatch I’ve made is large enough to double as a dishcloth or washcloth. Its soft yet durable texture makes it a perfect choice for practical, everyday items.
Other great textured crochet stitches include my Grit Stitch Crochet Pattern and Sedge Stitch Crochet Pattern, which also works well for dishcloths and pair nicely with the Suzette Stitch.
This versatile stitch can be used to make more than just dishcloths. With a few adjustments, you can easily create blankets, scarves, and more. While the pattern may look complex, it's quite simple. If you decide to make a larger project, like a blanket, this is a stitch you can do while watching TV without needing much focus.
Although sometimes referred to as the "Thicket Stitch," the Suzette Stitch is not to be confused with the Lemon Peel Stitch (also known as the Grit Stitch or Seed Stitch). Both patterns use single and double crochet stitches but differ in their placement. The Lemon Peel Stitch alternates single and double crochet stitches in each stitch space, while the Suzette Stitch combines both stitches in one stitch, then skips the next.
When I learn a new stitch, I like to make a swatch with cotton yarn, which can later be used as a dishcloth or washcloth. These swatches make great additions to a Crochet Spa Set, which can be a lovely last-minute gift idea.

✏️ Things To Note:
- Yarn Choice: I used Lily Sugar 'n Cream cotton yarn for this Suzette Stitch crochet dishcloth. While you can use any type of yarn, cotton is the best choice for dishcloths and washcloths due to its absorbency and durability.
- Project Versatility: Adjusting the chain count allows you to create larger projects like blankets or scarves. The pattern is simple and works up quickly, making it great for a variety of uses.
- Finished Size: The finished size of my dishcloth is approximately 10 inches by 10 inches.
🪡 Materials Needed

- H hook (5mm)
- Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends
💭 Abbreviations to Remember (US Terms)

🧋 Variations
- Try Different Yarn Colors: Experiment with different colors for a fun variety of dishcloths or washcloths.
- Adjust Size for New Projects: Vary the starting chain length and row count to create other items like scarves, baby blankets, or throw blankets.
🍵 Instructions for the Suzette Crochet Stitch
Row 1: Using light blue cotton yarn, ch x30 +1 for the turning ch. (30 +1)
Row 2: Starting in the second chain from the hook make a sc and a dc in the same stitch. Then skip the next ch. In the following ch make a sc and a dc in the same ch. Again, you are going to skip the next ch. You will repeat this for the rest of the row. (30)
The suzette stitch is made by making a sc and a dc in one stitch then skipping the next stitch, and repeating this process.
Ch x1 and turn. The ch is a turning ch so do not work in it. Skip over it in the next row and go directly to the last stitch worked.
Row 3-24: In the hole created from skipping the stitch below insert hook into the space. Then make a sc and a dc. Skip the next stitch and repeat.
Remember to ch +1 for turning after each row (30). When all the rows are complete, fasten off and weave in the tail.

And now you have your own suzette stitch crochet dishcloth or washcloth! Cheaper and cuter than the washcloths you can find at the store.

🐌Expert Tips
- Use Cotton Yarn for Durability: Cotton yarn is absorbent and durable, making it ideal for dishcloths and washcloths. Avoid acrylic yarn, as it doesn't absorb water well.
- Adjust Hook Size for Different Textures: If you prefer a looser texture, use a larger hook. For a tighter, more compact dishcloth, go down a hook size.
- Practice with Swatches: Before starting a larger project, make a small swatch to get comfortable with the stitch and check your tension.
🧵 Pattern FAQs
Yes! Acrylic is a synthetic fiber and doesn't absorb well.
No, the Suzette crochet stitch isn't known for consuming a lot of yarn. It can be utilized in projects just like single or double crochet stitches. It doesn't require additional yarn because it only uses single and double crochet stitches.
Some people also call it the thicket crochet stitch.
