✏️ Things To Note:
- Yarn Choice: Use a sturdy, medium-weight yarn for durability. Cotton yarn works well, as it’s easy to clean and holds its shape. If you do choose to use cotton and heave leftover red and white yarn you can make my crochet peppermint coaster pattern.
- Hook Size: Choose the appropriate hook size for your yarn to achieve the desired stitch tension. A smaller hook can create a tighter fabric, which is ideal for tags.
- Simple Patterns: Start with a simple design, especially if you’re new to crochet. Basic shapes like rectangles or circles are great for beginners.

- Color Combinations: Think about color schemes that match the occasion. Festive colors for Christmas, pastels for birthdays, or even earthy tones for an eco-friendly vibe can make a difference.
- Personalization Options: Consider how you want to personalize your tags. Stitching names or using fabric paint can add a special touch, but practice on a scrap piece first if you’re unsure.
🍵Instructions for Crochet Gift Tag Pattern
For this crochet Christmas gift tags pattern, we will be working in rows.
Row 1: With the white yarn, ch x9 (9).
Row 2: In the second ch from the hook, make a sc. Continue making sc for the rest of the chain length (8). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 3-11: Sc in every stitch (8). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 12: Dec, sc x4, dec (6). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 13: Dec, ch x2, dec (4). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 14: Sc, sc x2 into the ch space, sc. Then fasten off the yarn and weave in any ends.
Multicolored Single Crochet Border:
Starting with red, join the yarn to any place on the crochet gift tag border, then make a sc. Before finishing the sc by yarning over and going through the 2 loops on the hook, switch the yarning over color to green.
When you pull through the 2 loops on the hook, you will be left with green on your hook.
Make a green sc in the next stitch, but before finishing the stitch, switch the yarn to red just like before.
You will do this for the rest of the border, when you get to the corners you will make 3 sc stitches in each corner. Make sure you are still switching your colors every stitch though.
When you are done, fasten off the yarn and weave in any ends. If you would like you can add some personalization by stitching a name or by using fabric paint.
And there you have it—your beautiful crochet gift tags for Christmas are all finished!

🐌Expert Tips
- Size Matters: Keep the size of your tags manageable. They should be large enough to write on but not so big that they become cumbersome.
- Sewing on Attachments: If you plan to attach your tags with strings or ribbons, ensure that the attachment points are secure and won’t come undone easily.
- Finishing Touches: Don’t forget to weave in any loose ends carefully to keep your tags looking neat and polished.
🧵Pattern FAQs
You can use yarn, ribbon, or twine to attach the tags. Simply make a small hole at the top of the tag (if it’s not already there) and thread your chosen attachment through it.
Yes! One of the great benefits of crochet gift tags is that they are durable and can be reused year after year, making them an eco-friendly choice.
Aim for a size that is easy to write on but not too large. A good starting point is around 3 inches by 4 inches, but you can adjust based on your design.
