What's Halloween without candy corn? Instead of giving out candy to trick or treaters you can give crochet candy corn made from my crochet candy corn pattern! The best part is that they are super easy to make!

    Finished crochet candy corns.

I love Halloween โ€” I mean who doesnโ€™t? Everyone dresses up in cute costumes and receives candy from strangers! Now that I am an adult I really find it fascinating that as kids we were told โ€œnot to take candy from strangersโ€, but those rules are thrown out the window when it comes to Halloween. Now that I am a parent, I just make sure we go to our city run trick or treating events and inspect the candy afterwards before my son enjoys some.

I was thinking of making some cute little crochet plushies that I can make fast and use as treats for trick or treaters โ€” and that is when the crochet candy corn pattern was made! Last year I made my crochet ghost garland pattern that created different ghosts in cute costumes, so I wanted to do something similar this year and made options for the crochet candy to wear costumes too.

If you are selling these little guys for a Halloween market, you can also try your hand at my crochet pumpkin coaster pattern or crochet spider coaster pattern, both are super quick and easy to make. Or you can make my crochet spider amigurumi pattern, a fan favorite with minimal sewing.

So lets get started on making these cute crochet trick or treater treats!

    โœ๏ธ Things To Note:

    1. Easy for Beginners: The crochet candy corn pattern is easy to make for beginners! To make the regular crochet candy corn you only need to know basic crochet stitches.
    2. Fast to Make: The crochet candy corn takes less than an hour to make! I can actually make it in 30 minutes and I am not the fastest crocheter.
    3. Size: If you use worsted weight yarn and a 4mm hook your crochet candy corn will be roughly 3.5 inches tall.

    ๐Ÿชก Materials Needed

    • Red Heart Yarn - yellow
    • Red Heart Yarn - pumpkin
    • Red Heart Yarn - white
    • 4mm hook
    • Polyfil
    • Safety Eyes
    • If doing zombie or Frankenstein candy corn you will need 3 shades of purple, or 2 shades of green and black yarn.

    ๐Ÿ’ญAbbreviations to Remember (US terms)

    For the classic candy corn:

    • Magic ring - mr
    • Single crochet - sc
    • Chain - ch
    • Increase - inc
    • Decrease - dec
      • If doing the other crochet candy corn with costumes:
        • Bobble stitch
        • Double crochet - dc
        • Picot
        • Slip stitch - sl st

    * If you see a stitch abbreviation with "x" after it, it means how many times you do that stitch in the following amount of stitches. For example: sc x6 would mean you make a single crochet in the next 6 stitches. Inc x2 means you make an inc in the next 2 stitches.

    ๐Ÿง‹Variations

    • You can create more costumes for the candy corn! Like a witch by using my crochet witches hat from my crochet ghost pattern or a pirate that wears a bandana by switching the white top to red and then adding a little bandana tie similar to the one you see on my pirate ghost in the ghost crochet garland.
    • These are small enough that you can make these into little crochet candy corn keychains.
    • If you use bulky yarn, you can make a smaller (8 inches give or take) crochet candy corn pillow. Just use a bigger hook!

๐ŸตInstructions for Crochet Candy Corn Pattern

The crochet candy corn pattern is made in the round by going around a starting chain.

    Crocheting a classic candy corn.
    Crocheting a classic candy corn.

Round 1: With the yellow yarn, ch x12 then in the second ch from the hook make a sc. Make 9 more sc stitches in the following 9 chains. In the last ch available, sc x3. Now we will work on the other side of the chain that hasnโ€™t been worked on yet. Sc x9 in the other 9 chains. Then make an inc in the last ch. Then sl st to the first sc. This is the new starting point for the rounds, and also as a side note this is the only round we will make a sl st. From here on out we will work in a continuous spiral (24).

Round 2: Starting in the next stitch, sc x9 in the next 9 sc stitches. Inc x3, sc x9, inc x3 (30).

Round 3-6: Sc in every stitch (30).

Round 7: Dec, sc x3. Then repeat for the rest of the round (24). After you are done with the round, fasten off the yellow and switch the yarn to orange.

Round 8-11: Sc in every stitch (24). At this point, make sure the right side of the candy corn is facing out. We will be adding the eyes!

Lay the candy corn flat, then between the last 2 rounds of yellow you made - add the eyes 5 stitches apart โ€”because the eyes are big, there should be 3 VISIBLE stitches in between the eyes.

Round 12: Dec, sc x2. Then repeat for the rest of the round (18). After you are done with the round, fasten off the orange and switch the yarn to white. If you haven't started, stuff the candy corn and then stuff again as you complete the last rounds.

Round 13-15: Sc in every stitch (18).

Round 16: Dec, sc. Then repeat for the rest of the round (12).

Round 17: Dec in every stitch (6). Fasten off the yarn and then sew the top closed. Weave in any ends.

Embroidery: Using black yarn, add a nice smiling mouth between the eyes or even some stitches on the candy corn to give it some character.

    Crochet Candy Corn Costumes:

All use the basic candy corn pattern above.

    Crochet candy corn zombie.

    Zombie:

Use 3 shades of purple for the candy corn, add only 1 eye and then embroider an X for the other eye, as well as a few stitches.

    Crochet candy corn Frankenstein.

    Frankenstein:

Use 2 shades of green and then black at the top. Embroider stitch marks as well as lines where the black connects to the middle green to create a spikey hair effect. Then repeat on the other side.

To make the neck bolts โ€”join your black yarn to the side of the face, where the lower 2 green colors meet. Once the black yarn is joined, ch x3 then make a bobble stitch (dc5tog) then sl st to the same spot. You will do this to both sides. Then weave in any ends.

    Crochet candy corn mummy.

    Mummy:

After making the base โ€”ch x151 chains (you can adjust the amount if needed. Then in the second ch from the hook make a sl st. Continue making sl sts for the rest of the chain length. Then sew it to the candy corn by pinning it to the candy corn and tacking it every inch or so. Once done, weave in any ends.

    Crochet candy corn vampire.

    Bat/Vampire:

Make a straight line for the mouth and add 2 little white lines for teeth underneath it.

For the batwings: With the black yarn, ch x5 and then in the 3rd ch from the hook make a dc and then a picot stitch. A picot stitch is where you ch x3 and then make a sl st in the 3rd ch. Then make a dc in the same stitch where you made the first dc. In the next stitch make a dc, picot, and dc. In the last stitch make a dc, picot, and dc x2. Then fasten off the yarn with a tail for sewing. Make another bat wing and sew them to rounds 6-8 on the sides of the candy corn. Then weave in any ends.

And now all your candy corns are complete! I personally had fun creating crochet candy corn pattern for you and I could have made more costumes for them, but I just had to make myself stop!

If you are looking for more crochet things to make for trick or treaters, you can make my creepy crochet eye pattern, or maybe something more whimsical inspired like my crochet mushroom keychain pattern or mini crochet pumpkins and crochet acorns from my crochet fall garland pattern.

    Finished crochet candy corns.

    ๐ŸŒExpert Tips

    • Keep your tension consistent. If your tension differs from round to round or color to color it can create a lumpy looking crochet candy corn.
    • Make sure you are not over stuffing your candy corn. If you over stuff the candy corn you will create lumps and bulging crochet stitches. You want to stuff it just enough that it keeps its shape.
    • If you are used to it, you can yarn under instead of yarn over for this pattern. I like yarning over because its easier for me but I do know yarning under creates tighter stitches.

    ๐ŸงตPattern FAQs

Can I use chunky yarn for the pattern?

Absolutely! If you choose to make the crochet candy corn pattern in chunky yarn just make sure to change the hook size.

What is the difference between amigurumi and crochet?ย

Crochet is a broad term where you can practically make anything in 2D or 3D with yarn and a crochet hook. Amigurumi is only 3D stuffed animals/food/other objects with a whimsical and cute aesthetic.

    What does โ€œamigurumiโ€ mean?

The word is derived from two Japanese words: "ami" (meaning knitted or crocheted) and "nuigurumi" (meaning stuffed doll or plushie).

Row 12. I have 24 stitches. What does it mean Decrease 2 sc then repeat across. How does this make 18??

We start the round with 24. This round has you make a decrease and then a single crochet in the next stitch and another after that. So the decrease and 2 single crochets cover the span of 4 stitches. We are wanting to decrease the number in this round by 6, so you should repeat this sequence of 3 stitches in 4 stitches 6 times because โ€” 6 (times repeated) x 3 (stitches made in the previous rounds 4 stitches) = 18.
