What is Saint Patrick's Day without a pot of gold? Look no further and make your own mini pot of gold with my Crochet Pot of Gold Pattern.
As I was creating patterns for Saint Patrick's Day, like my crochet shamrock coasters, crochet shamrock appliques, crochet rainbow keychain, and crochet rainbow scarf, my husband noticed that I was missing a pot of gold! Instantly, I knew I had to make a crochet pot of gold pattern.
The crochet pot of gold is small, perfect for those who feel overwhelmed by larger crochet projects. In fact, this pot of gold crochet pattern can be completed in just 30 minutes.
If you are looking to make a larger pot of gold, follow the same pattern below but use chunky yarn and a larger hook.
So let's get started!

✏️ Things To Note:
- Yarn Options: I made the pattern with acrylic worsted weight yarn, but any yarn size will do. If you use chunky yarn, it can be about the size of a soup bowl.
- Customization: I designed the pattern without handles, but feel free to add some by making small crochet chains and stitching them to the sides.
- Dimensions: The size of the pot of gold is roughly 3 inches.

💭Abbreviations to Remember (US terms)
- Magic ring - mr
- Single crochet - sc
- Front loop only - flo
🧋Variations
- Larger Pot: To create a larger pot of gold, use chunky yarn and a larger hook.
- Drawstring Option: You can also use it as a pouch by inserting a drawstring through the round where you do a front loop only, going through the stitches.
🍵Instructions for Crochet Pot of Gold Pattern

Round 3: Inc, sc, inc, sc and then repeat until end of round (18)
Round 4: Inc, sc x2, inc, sc x2 and then repeat until end of round (24)
Round 5: Inc, sc x3, inc, sc x3 and then repeat until end of round (30)
Round 6-11: Sc in every stitch (30).
Round 12: In flo, sc in every stitch (30).
Round 13: Inc, sc x4, inc, sc x4 and then repeat until end of round (36)
Fasten off and weave in any ends.
Additionally you can add a drawstring on the flo round by weaving a piece of yarn through the round.
And now you have a small crochet pot of gold!
🐌Expert Tips
- Adding Handles: If you want to add handles, chain 4 and stitch to the row just below the flo-only row.
- Color Customization: Consider using glitter yarn or metallic threads for a magical touch.
- Embellishments: Add tiny felt or crocheted coins on top for an extra festive look.
🧵Pattern FAQs
Absolutely! A pot of gold can double as a cauldron, making it suitable for both holidays.
To close the top, create a disk with gold yarn by making a magic ring, then working rounds of 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30. Sew it to the flo round using the back loops and add little extra coins to the top by making a magic ring, sc x6, fasten it off, and sew it on.
I like to use it for little treats for my kids, but it also makes an excellent dice pouch.
