Bring a bit of brightness to your morning with the help of my cute sunflower coaster crochet pattern. The crochet sunflower coaster looks complicated, but in reality, its fairly simple!
I used cotton yarn for the coasters, as it absorbs liquid well.
Avoid acrylic yarn for coasters, but it can be used for crochet sunflower appliques on blankets or pillows.
The finished sunflower crochet coaster measures roughly 5 inches in diameter.
Instructions
This pattern is made in rounds not rows.
Round 1: With the brown yarn, make a mr then immediately ch x2 and dc x11 into the ring. Then sl st to the top ch, this now counts as a dc (12).
Round 2: Ch x2, dc into the same place you made the chains. Then dc inc x11. Sl st to the top of the beginning chs to finish the round (24).
Round 3: Ch x2, dc into the same place you made the chains. Then make a dc in the next stitch. Repeat making a dc inc, and then a dc in the next stitch for the rest of the round (36). Sl st to the beginning of the chains and fasten off the yarn.
Round 4: Join the yellow yarn anywhere on the edge and make a ch. Sc into the same stitch. Then immediately after *ch x4, sc inc into the next stitch, skip the next stitch and make a sc inc in the following stitch.
Repeat from * for the rest of the round. Have the last stitches be a sc inc and a skipped stitch. Sl st to the first chain you made at the beginning.
Round 5: Do not make any starting chains, instead *dc x4 into the ch-4 space you made in the previous row. Then make a picot stitch at the top by chaining 3 and slip stitching it the third chain from your hook before making 4 more dc stitches on the other side of the ch space. Then make a sl st in between the sc inc stitches right where you skipped a stitch in the previous row.
You just completed your first petal. Repeat from * for every ch space in the round. Then when the round is finished, fasten off the yarn and weave in any ends.
Now you have completed your first crochet sunflower coaster!
