Size: The crochet poptart pattern is roughly 3x4 inches. It is perfect for keychains, or even a cute card sleeve!
Yarn: I used regular worsted weight for this amigurumi food pattern, which I do for most of my food patterns except the crochet tempura which uses chunky yarn. But if you wanted to use chunky yarn, now this pattern will be about double its current size.
Skeins: This is a small project so you do not need to buy new skeins. I think it's great for trying to use up any of the little remnants of colors you might have lying around.
Instructions
The crochet poptart pattern is made in rows.
Whole Poptart:
Row 1: Ch x11. Then in the second ch make a sc. Continue making sc for the rest of the ch length (10). Ch x1 and turn.
Row 2-14: Sc in every stitch (10). Then ch x1 and turn. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Make x2.
Frosting:
Row 1: Ch x9. Then in the second ch make a sc. Continue making sc for the rest of the ch length (8). Ch x1 and turn.
Row 2-12: Sc in every stitch (8). Then ch x1 and turn. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Sewing:
Add the safety eyes to the frosting part of the poptart. I chose to add mine 3 rows up from the bottom and 2 stitches from the edges.
Sew the frosting to the top of one of the poptart bases - try and center it the best you can and make sure there is a little bit of crust shown on each side.
Once sewn on, add finishing touches like any embroidery to complete the frosting or a mouth between the eyes.
After the front of the amigurumi pastry is completed, crochet the 2 sides of the pastry together. Make sure the frosting is on the outer side. To crochet the pastry together just rejoin the aran yarn to the edge and single crochet around the poptart. As a general rule you want to add 1 single crochet to each row and then 2 in the corners.
Bitten Poptart:
Row 1: Ch x11. Then in the second ch make a sc. Continue making sc for the rest of the ch length (10). Ch x1 and turn.
Row 2-11: Sc in every stitch (10). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 12-13: Sc x8 (8). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 14: Sc x6 (6). Fasten off and weave in the ends. Make x2.
Bitten Frosting:
Row 1: Ch x9. Then in the second ch make a sc. Continue making sc for the rest of the ch length (8). Ch x1 and turn.
Row 2-10: Sc in every stitch (8). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 11-12: Sc x6 (6). Then ch x1 and turn. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Sewing:
Assemble just like the normal whole poptart, but add a jam color to the bitten mark when sewing the poptart closed.
And now the crochet poptart pattern is finished! I hope you enjoyed making this tasty treat!
