Football season is here so why not make yourself a cute squishable football with my crochet football pattern! It’s perfect to squeeze during those stressful moments while you're watching the game!
Size: The crochet football pattern is roughly 7 inches tall. I yarn under for this football pattern so my rounds are tighter, if you do the normal yarn over it will come out just slightly bigger. Examples of a few patterns where I chose to yarn under instead of yarn over are my crochet croissant pattern and my crochet gingerbread man pattern. I think it creates a more polished overall appearance.
Yarn: I chose to do worsted weight (size 4 yarn). You can make this pattern in any weight of yarn - smaller weighted yarn will yield a smaller football and a bigger weight will create a larger football. Just change the hook size according to your yarn type.
Shape: This crochet football pattern is made to appear rounder than a typical football or other crochet football patterns out there - if you would like a football plush with more pronounced tapered ends you will need to use a different pattern.
Instructions
The crochet football pattern is made in the round.

Embroidery:
I like to use some black yarn to embroider a mouth right between the eyes by making a little v.
I also add a little bit of white to the outer half of the eyes by taking white yarn and getting the yarn as close to the safety eyes as I can. It doesn't matter if you go from top down or vice versa, but make sure you are careful when pulling the loop tight because it can go underneath the eye.
For embroidering the stitch marks I start by making the larger horizontal line first. I have the line stretching from rounds 13 to 27. And I embroidered that line 2x.
Next I add the shorter vertical lines. I made 4 lines a little less than an inch apart and about an inch long straddling the horizontal line. I made sure to go over every vertical line 2x.
Fasten off any loose yarn and the crochet football pattern is done!
