Use cotton yarn for the crochet donut pattern, if you use acrylic yarn, you can turn the coasters into a cute crochet donut applique. Perfect for blankets and other decorative elements that don't require the piece to be absorbent.
This pattern is perfect to learn how to crochet coasters for beginners because it is in the round and only 3 rounds.
The finished donut crochet pattern is roughly 4.5 inches wide, you can always alter the hook size if you want the crochet donut pattern bigger or smaller.
Instructions
This pattern is made in rounds.
Round 1: Using frosting color, make a magic ring and immediately chain 2 (does not count as a stitch). Then dc x24 into the magic ring. To secure the round, sl st to the 1st dc in the round (24). When you pull the magic ring tight there will be a hole in the center of your coaster. This is the donut hole.
Round 2: Ch x2, then dc inc, dc and repeat for the rest of the round (36). Then sl st to the first dc in the round and fasten off the frosting color and switch it to tan.
Round 3: Ch x1, then in blo hdc inc, hdc x2 and repeat for the rest of the round (48). Every stitch this round will be in blo. Then fasten off the tan yarn and fasten off the yarn. Finally weave in any ends.
Embroidery:
Using 1-3 colors of cotton yarn, create sprinkles on the frosting of the crochet donut coaster. You can change the direction of the sprinkles, and also the lengths if you want.
