• The Crochet Chestnut Pattern is made in the round.
• Round 1: With the light brown yarn, ch x9, then make a sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. Make another 6 sc stitches. Make 3 sc in the last stitch and turn to the unworked side of the chain, sc x6. In the last ch make 2 sc stitches and then sl st to the first sc you made in the round. This marks the end of the round and will be your new starting point. This is also the only round you will make a sl st to finish it off (18).
• Round 2: Sc x6, inc x3 and then repeat for the other half of the round (24).
• Round 3: Inc, sc x3 and then repeat for the rest of the round (30). Then fasten off the light brown yarn at the end of this round and join the darker brown yarn.
• Round 4-9: Sc in every stitch (30). You want to add eyes to the crochet chestnut now. I added mine between rounds 6 and 7 with about 4 stitches in between them.
• Round 10: Dec, sc x8, then repeat for the rest of the round (27).
• Round 11: Dec, sc x7, then repeat for the rest of the round (24).
• Round 12: Dec, sc x6, then repeat for the rest of the round (21). Begin to stuff the crochet chestnut!
• Round 13: Dec, sc x5, then repeat for the rest of the round (18).
• Round 14: Dec, sc, then repeat for the rest of the round (12). You decreased 6 times instead of 3 for this round!
• Round 15: Dec, sc x2, then repeat for the rest of the round (9).
• Round 16: Dec, sc, then repeat for the rest of the round (6). Fasten off your yarn and leave a tail for sewing. Take your needle and sew the top of the chestnut closed. Weave in the tails.

Embroidery:

• Add white to the outer side of the eye balls to make them pop! This can be tricky due to the backings on the safety eyes.
• Add a smile in between the eyes by using the black yarn.
• Then add a dash of pink to right below the outer eye. I have my blush only going over 1 stitch.
• And now the crochet chestnut pattern is done! Time to move onto the chestnut shell!

Crochet Chestnut’s Inner Shell:

• You want to make the inner before the outershell.
• Round 1: Using the light thyme yarn, make a mr and sc x6 in the circle. If you find it difficult making a magic ring you can chain 2 and then crochet sc x6 in the second chain from the hook. (6)
• Round 2: Inc in every sc (12).
• Round 3: Inc, sc, then repeat until end of round (18).
• Round 4: Inc, sc x2, then repeat until end of round (24).
• Round 5: Inc, sc x3, then repeat until end of round (30).
• Round 6-7: Sc in every stitch (30). Fasten off and weave in the yarn.

Crochet Chestnut Outer Shell:

• DOUBLE STRAND this portion of the pattern using BOTH the light thyme yarn and the eyelash yarn (this makes it easier to see your stitches). Follow the inner shell pattern.
• You want to make sure your stitches are tight because you are now using 2 strands of yarn and the inner shell will be a bit smaller than the outer shell because of this (that's okay).
• Why not double strand the inner shell too? Well, you can but that would be a 4 weight + 4 weight yarn and the outer shell is a 4 weight + 2 weight, so the inner shell will end up bigger.
• Once the outer shell is made,do not fasten off the yarn, instead sc together the inner and outer shell. Make sure the fluffiest side of the shell is facing out. Once the shell is crocheted together fasten off and weave in any ends.
• Repeat making the inner and outer shell for the other side of the chestnut.
• If you want to sew the 2 shells together, you can! Just sew 10-12 stitches together. Then you can add a chestnut to the middle to make it look like it is peaking out!
