Capybara-bara! My Crochet Capybara Coaster Pattern is a perfect way to accessorize your morning cup of coffee. The capybara with oranges on its head is sure to bring a smile to anyone's face.
Use cotton yarn for the capybara crochet pattern; acrylic can be used to create a cute capybara applique for non-absorbent items like blankets.
This pattern is great for intermediate crocheters, featuring 4 rounds with a few color changes.
It's a simple circle pattern until the capybara elements appear in the last round.
The finished capybara crochet coaster is about 4.5–5 inches wide; adjust the hook size for desired dimensions.
Instructions
This pattern is made in rounds.
Round 1: Using the brown yarn, make a magic ring and immediately chain 2 (does not count as a stitch). Then dc x12 into the magic ring. To secure the round, sl st to the 1st dc in the round (12). Fasten off the brown yarn and switch it to jute yarn.
Round 2: Ch x2, then dc inc in every stitch from the previous round. Then sl st to the first dc in the round (24).
Round 3: Ch x2, then dc inc, dc and repeat for the rest of the round. Then sl st to the first dc in the round (36).
Round 4: This is the last round for the crochet capybara coaster and will help create its overall shape.
Sc, sl st, and switch the jute yarn to brown. You don't have to fasten off the jute yarn, just tuck it under the stitches needed for the ear. In the next stitch (do not skip a stitch) make: dc, tr x2, and dc.
Then immediately make a sl st in the following stitch and switch colors back to jute. You do not need to fasten off the brown yarn, just tuck it under the next couple of stitches until you need to use it again for the next ear. Then sc x6 along the next 6 stitches. Then make a sl st and switch the color back to brown.
Now make the second ear like you did before: dc, tr x2, dc in the following stitch. Then sl st in the next stitch and switch the yarn back to jute. This is where you can fasten off and weave in the ends for the brown yarn.
After anchoring the ear, follow the sequence of stitches for the rest of the round:
Sc, sc inc, hdc, dc, dc inc, dc, hdc, hdc inc, sc x8, hdc inc, hdc, dc, dc inc, dc, hdc, sc inc, sl st to 1st sc in the round and fasten off. Then weave in any loose ends.
Tangerine:
Round 1: Using the orange yarn, make a mr and make sc x6 in the circle. If you find it difficult making a magic ring you can chain 2 and then crochet sc x6 in the second chain from the hook. (6)
Round 2: Inc in every sc. (12) then fasten off the yarn and leave a tail for sewing.
Finishing:
Sew the tangerine/orange to the top of the crochet capybara’s head.
Then using the black yarn make little eyes on opposite sides of the brown circle, and then make an embroidered Y nose in the brown circle from round 1.
And now your coaster is done! I hope you enjoyed my crochet capybara pattern!
