Crochet Bat Bag Pattern:

• Using the medium purple yarn, ch x33.
• Round 1: In the second ch from the hook, make a inc. Then sc x30. In the last chain, sc 3 times to turn the corner. Now working on the other side of the chain, sc in the next 30 stitches, and in the final stitch, make a sc (36).
• Round 2 - 38: Sc in every stitch. At the end of Round 38, fasten off the medium purple yarn and join the black yarn (36).
• Round 39 - 41: With the black yarn, sc in every stitch (36). After Round 41, fasten off and weave in any yarn ends.

Crochet Bag Handles: make x2

• With the black yarn ch x50.
• Row 1: In the second ch from the hook make a sc. Then sc the rest of the chain (49).
• Row 2 - 5: Sc in every stitch (49). At the end of Row 5, fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Crochet Bat Applique: Make x2

• Ch x15.
• Round 1: THIS NEXT PART WILL BE LAID OUT IN STEPS BECAUSE IT IS A BIT COMPLEX.
• - Dc inc in the 3rd chain from the hook.
• - Dc in the next chain.
• - In the following chain, work (tr, ch 1, tr).
• - Dc in each of the next 2 chains.
• - In the next chain, work (dc, tr).
• - In the following chain, work tr inc.
• - In the next chain, work (tr, dc).
• - Dc in the next 2 chains.
• - In the next chain, work (tr, ch 1, tr).
• - Dc in the next chain.
• - Finish with a dc inc in the last chain.
• *moving towards the unworked side of the chain:
• - Sl st into the side of the last dc you made.
• - Then, sl st into the unworked side of the starting chain.
• - Sl st x4 along the side.
• - Work 1 dc, then sl st into the same stitch as the dc.
• - Sl st into the next 2 stitches.
• - Make 1 dc, then sl st back into the same stitch.
• - Sl st x5.
• - Ch x2, then sl st into the same stitch.
• *We will now go around the bottom edge of the bat to make the wings more pointy.
• - Sl st x2.
• - Ch x2, then sl st into the same stitch where you made the chains.
• - Sl st x4 — you should now be at the chain space from the previous round.
• - Ch x2, then sl st into the same stitch.
• - Sl st x4.
• - Sc x4.
• - Sl st x5 — you should end in the next chain space.
• - Ch x2, then sl st into the same stitch.
• - Sl st x3.
• - Ch x2, then sl st into the same stitch.
• - Finally, sl st x2,
• - Ch x2, then sl st into the same stitch, and fasten off — leaving a tail for sewing.

Crochet Moon Applique:

• Round 1: Using the yellow yarn, make a mr and sc x6 in the circle. Alternative: Ch x2 and sc x6 into the second chain from the hook (6).
• Round 2: Inc in every sc (12).
• Round 3: Inc, sc, and then repeat until end of round (18). Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Crochet Half Cloud Appliques:

Large:

• In light purple, ch x15. Begin in the second ch from the hook; work dc x5 in the same st (shell). Skip 1 ch, then sc in the next ch. After skipping the following ch, tr x7 into the next ch (modified shell). Skip 1 ch and sc x1 in the next. Continue by skipping 1 ch and working dc x6 in the following ch (shell). Next, skip 1 ch and sc in the next. Skip 1 more ch, then dc x3 into the next ch. Finish with a sc and a sl st in the final ch. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Small:

• In light purple, ch x9. Then in the 2nd ch from the hook make a sc. In the next stitch dc x3, skip a chain, then sl st in the next chain. Next skip the next ch, dc x6 in the next ch. Finish the row with 1 single crochet in the final chain. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Assembly:

• Lay out your appliqués as shown in the reference photo. Sew them onto the front of the tote bag.
• Once the appliqués are in place, attach the handles to the top of the bag. Make sure they’re evenly spaced and securely sewn.
• Weave in any remaining ends.

Optional: Add a Fabric Liner

• If you'd like to line your tote:
• 1) Lay the bag over two layers of fabric.
• 2) Cut out a rectangle slightly larger than the bag (to allow for seam allowance).
• 3) Sew the two fabric pieces together, either by hand or with a sewing machine.
• 4) Sew the liner to the inside top edge of the crochet bag.
