Notes
Stitches: The only stitch you need to know how to make for this pattern is the half double crochet (hdc).
Yarn: You can make the crochet border pattern with any type of yarn, just make sure it matches the rest of your project.
Hook Size: You should use the same hook size as you did for your base project.
Instructions
Step 1:
Join the yarn you want for the border in any stitch. Then ch x1 and make a hdc into the same stitch.
Step 2:
Make a hdc stitch in every stitch around the border. Stop when you get to the corner and see step 3.
Step 3:
When you get to the corners of a project there are 2 types of corners you can make for the hdc border:
Adding a border to a granny square: Hdc x2, ch, hdc x2. (This similarly mimics the dc round below)
Around a solid project (no hole to work in from the previous round - better for rows): Hdc x3.
Continue repeating steps 2 and 3 until the project is complete. Finish the round by making a sl st to the first hdc (not the chain).
Note: If you are making a border around a project with rows, for the raw side edges you will:
Single crochet - Make a hdc for each row.
Half double crochet - Make hdc x2 in one row, then hdc in the next. Then repeat.
Double crochet - Make hdc x2 in each row.
Adjust as necessary for tension.
And now you know how to make the half double crochet blanket border!
