Consistency in Tension: Consistency in tension is key when crocheting your square coasters. Keeping an even tension throughout will ensure that your coasters have a neat, polished look with consistent edges.
Skill Level: This pattern is perfect for crocheters ranging from beginners to intermediate skill levels. If you're comfortable with chains and single crochets, you're all set! The simplicity of the stitches makes it an enjoyable project for anyone.
Yarn Choice: For yarn, choose a sturdy, medium-weight option. Cotton yarn is a great choice because it’s durable, easy to clean, and holds its shape well, making it ideal for coasters that will see regular use. Plus, cotton yarn tends to add a nice texture that enhances the finished look of your project. Happy crocheting!
Instructions
The pattern for the crochet Santa coaster pattern will be in rows.
Row 1: Ch x15 with either the red or green.
Row 2: In the second ch from the hook, make a sc. Continue making sc for the rest of the row (14). Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 3-7: Sc in every stitch (14). At the end of the last row, switch the color to black then ch x1.
Row 8-10: Sc in every stitch (14). At the end of the last row, switch the color to green or red then ch x1.
Row 11-16: Sc in every stitch (14). At the end of the last row, make another sc in the last stitch and then sc around the outside of the square for a neater edge. The rule of thumb is 1 sc per row you made as well as 1 sc per stitch on the top and bottom of the square.
Fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends when you are done.
Embroidery:
With the yellow yarn and tapestry needle, embroider a belt buckle on the black strip. I made my belt buckle thicker by passing through each section twice.
I hope this crochet Santa coaster pattern brings some extra holiday cheer to your home! Whether you're making Santa or switching it up with an elf, these crochet Xmas coasters will add a touch of handmade magic to your table.
