Crochet Pumpkin Coaster Pattern

Here is my free Crochet Pumpkin Coaster Pattern! What better way to have your pumpkin spice latte than on a crochet pumpkin coaster?

Chain - ch
Magic ring - mr
Single crochet - sc
Increase - inc (This is 2 stitches 1 stitch and will also tell you which stitch to use. For example: "dc inc" or "hdc inc".)
Double crochet - dc
Half double crochet - hdc
Triple crochet - tr
Slip stitch - sl st

Yarn Selection: I used cotton yarn to make the crochet pumpkin coaster pattern, as it absorbs moisture better than acrylic. If you do use acrylic, consider turning them into crochet pumpkin appliques for blankets instead. I often make granny square blankets and add appliques for extra flair, like in my crochet sunflower granny square blanket.
Size: The finished crochet pumpkin coasters are about 4.5 inches in height and width, perfect for wide-base cups and mugs.
Customization: Add a jack-o-lantern face to your coasters for a fun Halloween twist.

Round 1: Using the orange yarn, make a magic ring and immediately chain 2 (does not count as a stitch). Then dc x12 into the magic ring. To secure the round, sl st to the 1st dc in the round (12).
Round 2: Ch x2, then dc inc in every stitch from the previous round. Then sl st to the first dc in the round (24).
Round 3: Ch x2, then dc inc, dc and repeat for the rest of the round. Then sl st to the first dc in the round (36).
Round 4: This is the last round for the crochet pumpkin coaster and will help create its overall shape.
Hdc inc, dc inc, dc x5, tr, tr inc, (tr 3 in one stitch), (tr + dc into 1 stitch), dc, hdc, and make a sl st in between the next 2 dc posts from the row below (see photo).
(You want to sl st in between the dc posts this will count as a stitch for the dc post on the right, not on the left)
Starting with the dc stitch on the left of that sl st you made in between posts: Sl st x6, sl st in between dc posts
Starting with the dc stitch on the left of that sl st you made in between posts: Hdc, dc, (dc + tr into 1 stitch), (tr 3 in one stitch), tr inc, tr, dc x5, dc inc, hdc inc, finally make a sl st. Then fasten off the orange yarn and weave in the ends. There will be a divot on top of the pumpkin - this is ok.

Make a mr and then sc x6 into the circle - do not join the round. Instead ch x1 and turn.
(hdc + dc +tr in the 1st stitch),
(dc + sl st + hdc + dc in the 2nd stitch),
(tr + ch +tr in the 3rd stitch),
(dc + hdc + sl st + dc in the 4th stitch),
(tr + dc + hdc + ch in the 5th stitch),
sl st in the 6th stitch.
After making the sl st in the last stitch, ch x15.
In the second chain from the hook sc inc. Continue making sc inc in each chain. This will cause the chain to become curly.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Ch x4 with the brown yarn and turn.
Row 1: In the second chain from the hook make a sc. Then sc for the next 2 stitches. Then ch x1 and turn.
Row 2: Sc in every stitch (3). Then fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Sew the stem to the top indent of the pumpkin, then sew the leaf and vine to the pumpkin. You can orient the leaf and vine anyway you want to, just make sure to leave room for a coffee cup to sit.
And now you have a cute crochet pumpkin coaster! Remember that if you use acrylic instead of cotton you can always turn it into a pumpkin applique and use it in projects like my strawberry crochet blanket.
